McCain's McMansions: Who is Really Elite?

A new Brave New Films video shows just who's really out of touch with Americans and who's really in the elite. The film, titled "McCain's Mansions: the Real Elitist" highlights various McCain homes in Arizona, California and Virginia, with one valued at $4.66 million, while contrasting the scenes with the story of Eileen Gillis, a woman who lost her home because, even with her and her husband working four jobs, they were unable to meet their mortgage payments.

McCain's "maverick" image is a complete fake. He has voted in lockstep with the Bush administration 95% of the time during his career in Congress. His policies, while presented in bumper sticker sound bites designed to appeal to the GOP base, consistently mirror the Bush administration. The ultimate absurdity is his insistence that extending the Bush tax cuts will save the economy.

"Remember when Clinton raised taxes and the economy got better and kept getting even better all through the 90's?

In 2001 Bush said that news of the dramatic change from budget surplus to budget deficit after his tax cuts started taking effect was "incredibly positive news."

President Bush said today that there was a benefit to the government's fast-dwindling surplus, declaring that it will create "a fiscal straitjacket for Congress." He said that was "incredibly positive news" because it would halt the growth of the federal government.

(He said this in August, 2001. Later, when people were upset about it the weasel tried to blame 9/11 for the deficits.)

Now we pay almost $500 billion at year for interest on the resulting debt and this amount is rising rapidly.

Earlier this year we borrowed $152 billion and sent checks to everyone, calling it a "stimulus package." The interest on that borrowing alone will add another $6.8 billion per year to our budget -- forever -- assuming rates don't rise. Great idea. "
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/dave-johnson/th...

Insanity is repeating the same act over and over again expecting different results. McCain is an old man who lacks the intellect and interest to even learn the basics of complex policy issues, and his wealth has created a bubble which prevents him from having the foggiest clue what life in the real world is like. As we used to say about Bush "He was born on 3rd base and thought he hit a triple". McCain was born to privilege, married his wealth and has never held a job outside government. Yet he has the gall to label the self made man who worked for everything he has an elitist.

Liar.

John McCain and the Republicans try to constantly portary Barack Obama, but it's actually McCain that is an "Elitist". He's the one that jet sets around the world, had 10 Homes worth over $1 million a piece and he had to have a woman at a grocery store point out that a gallon of milk was the highest it's ever been.

When was the last time John McCain shopped for groceries? Probably never, I'm sure his maid does the shopping while his yard man takes care of his properties.

He is such a phony and every time he refers to people as "my friends" it makes me sick. He doesn't know the first thing about any one of those people to be calling them his friends. And sinse he probably sees them as being beneath his "elitist" base, he really doesn't care what they think, he just needs to feed them lines so they'll vote for him.

The Tax Cuts Killed The Economy

Remember how Bush's tax cuts were supposed to help the economy? Remember how all his deregulation was supposed to help the economy? Remember how cutting back on government was supposed to help the economy? Well, the economy has been pretty bad since Bush started putting his policies into effect. Jobs never recovered. Wages never went up. One thing HAS gone up -- the interest we pay on the debt which is the result of the tax cuts.
And now the economy is getting much, much worse.

MAC-MONEY AND MARRIAGE:
In early 1977, Admiral Jim Holloway, Chief of Naval Operations promoted McCain to captain and transferred him from his command position "to Washington as the number-two man in the Navy's Senate liaison office. It wasn't long before the "fun loving and irreverent" McCain had turned the liaison office into a "late-afternoon gathering spot where senators and staffers, usually from the Armed Services and Foreign Relations committees, would drop in for a drink and the chance to unwind."
In 1979 at a military reception in Honolulu, McCain met Cindy Hensley, an attractive 25-year-old woman from a very wealthy politically-connected Arizona family. Cindy's father, Jim, founded the Hensley and Company, the nation's third-largest Anheuser-Busch distributor.
McCain described their first meeting, "She was lovely, intelligent and charming, 17 years my junior but poised and confident. I monopolized her attention the entire time, taking care to prevent anyone else from intruding on our conversation. When it came time to leave the party, I persuaded her to join me for drinks at the Royal Hawaiian Hotel. By the evening's end, I was in love."
While still married to Carol, McCain began an adulterous relationship with Cindy. He married Cindy in May 1980 -- just a month after dumping Carol and securing a divorce. The newlyweds honeymooned in Hawaii.
McCain followed his young, millionairess wife back to Arizona where her father helped catapult McCain into politics,
Today, Cindy Hensley McCain is chairwoman of Hensley's board of directors. Hensley and Company financial reports show assets worth a minimum of $28 million for the McCains
A month after the divorce, McCain married Cindy Lou Hensley, heiress to Phoenix-based Hensley & Co., the nation's second-largest Anheuser-Busch distributor.

McCain has a growing habit of rearranging the dictionary:

Obama is the elitist
Hero means saving yourself
Gook is not a racial slur
Honorable includes adultery
Victory is a banner on a boat
Maverick is whatever Bush wants

I'd like to help our clueless brethren, who will comment without looking at the source, to understand the topic of the thread:

The Real Elitist: Video of McCain's Collection of Mansions Reveal He's Not Your Average Joe
[...]While highlighting the wealth of Mr. McCain and his wife, Cindy - the video also includes a cable news clip poking fun at Mr. McCain's $520 calfskin loafers made by Salvatore Ferragamo - the video also focuses on the tale of Eileen Gillis, described as a systems engineer and sales clerk whose house in Connecticut was foreclosed upon.[...]

The video shows Mr. McCain praising 51 million homeowners for skipping vacations, taking a second job or managing their budgets to make their mortgage payments on time. But then the video shows Ms. Gillis saying that she and her husband took second jobs in retailing, but were still unable to avoid foreclosure. She said the choice came down to putting food on the table or paying their monthly mortgage.[...]

McCain's Mansions shows his wife explaining why she bought a private jet. "My husband was running for the Senate in Arizona," she said. "And in Arizona the only way to get around the state is by small private plane and I wound up loving it and buying a plane."[...]

McCain's Mansions also shows a CNN report saying that the McCains are worth at least $36.5 million, with some people estimating that they are worth $100 million.

The video runs clips from cable news showing various McCain homes, including one valued at $4.66 million in Phoenix, one worth $2.1 million in Coronado, Calif, one worth $1.97 million in Sedona, Ariz., one worth $1 million in La Jolla, Calif., and one worth $847,800 in Arlington, Va.

It also replays some of McCain's comments on the foreclosure crisis in which he said, "Any assistance must be temporary and must not reward people who were irresponsible at the expense of those who weren't."

Then it shows Ms. Gillis saying that she and her husband were not irresponsible and that they could not keep up with their $2,400 a month mortgage payments with interest rates that had climbed to 15.75 percent.

"I don't think that unless you've been in this situation that you can truly appreciate how hard it is for people," she said.[...]

Of course, they will probably do their usual thing of ignoring anything that criticizes McCain. That way it will drop off the front page rapidly. Do they think no one will notice? Dummies.

Anyone considered in the Top 10% of any grouping are the elites.

In HS it was probably jocks and cheerleaders the same holds true in college among others such as looks and personalties.

All the way up the food chain , elites in your town , county , state and Fed gov't.
Then you have Elites within the Elites such as NBA players but then there is Koby .

Sister Teresa was an ELITE for sure even though she had taken the vows of poverty.

But do you act out in an ELITEIST manner in an obvious way ?

Hillary is an elite but doesn't act out that way in public drinking shots and beers.

Both the Kerry's did. As some thought Mitt Romney did also.

Obamamessiah in his " Clinging to guns and Bibles " was showing Eliteism.

John McCain in his original stand on immigration was showing Eliteism.

Then you have the Hollywood scene loaded with Elites but not all act in an Eliteist manner.

It depends on what your meaning of 'is' is.
---Bill Clinton

This is more revisionist history.'Elitist' was introduced in this campaign season as one having conscious pride in belonging to a select or favored group.

It was Hillary Clinton that first labeled Obama as an elitist after his 'gotten bitter and cling to guns or reliqion' comments in a private San Francisco campaign event. Hillary was speaking of Obama's attitude in making those comments.

This smear piece (and all the Obamabots piling on) are trying to make a gotcha out of McCain's wealth as proof of elitism.

However, taking in account Obama's stall in the polls, this is nothing but petty politics of a campaign that's losing steam.

Most of the posts here seem to feel that being elite is a bad thing. Only in the good old USA can an average joe become part of the elite. All of you who think otherwise need to live in a third world country for awhile or move to a strong socialist country such as Russia. And if you think Mr. Obama cares about you or your well being you are in a serious dulisional state. He is a socialist pure and simple and he wants to distribute wealth through higher taxes and a big government to watch over you. Yes he wants to "change" our country, but into what, we have the best nation in the world. We are free of terrorist attacks , have the best standard of living (for those who want to earn it) and still have the lowest gas prices in the world. What exactly do you want to change it's not too bad the way it is, I think I'll pass on the change and Mr. Obama too.

OK. I have not seen the video in question but exactly who held a gun to Eileen Gillis' head and forced her to assume an adjustable rate mortgage? Sounds to me like they bought over their heads and never had a prayer of keeping that house, but let's villify a presidential candidate even though it's completely irrelevant.

By the way... if you study history I think you will find that most every president has been enormously wealthy and quite a few were elitist snobs. It may not be something of which we as a nation are proud -- choosing to believe that our leaders are "one of us" -- but it is a fact.

So some production company made a movie contrasting a highly successful person and a person who can't manage their money responsibly? Why would that be interesting? Sorry to say, but if a person can’t afford their mortgage then they need a home more suitable to their earnings or they need to earn more.

Sure some folks are born more privileged than others and some folks just get some tough breaks. Personally, I make a decent living, but I thank God everyday for my comfortable life and the sacrifices that our military members and veterans have made and continue to make for our freedom and security.

So to the so-called film-makers, I would ask them this:

How many years of your life did you spend in a Vietnamese prison camp?
I’m guessing they would prefer the high mortgage payment.

You are forgetting that sheep like to be led and have their decisions made for them. I once met a person who said she liked paying taxes because her annual refund was like "a little savings account". That my friend is the kind of profound stupidity that's attracted to Obama.

Actually, by juxtaposing McCain's lifestyle and positions with the reality described by the homeowner, it PROVES the point. McCain has no clue about the challenges people are facing and he thinks we're all whiners. His policies reflect his attitude.
