Barr announces Libertarian White House bid

Former Republican Rep. Bob Barr launched a Libertarian Party presidential bid Monday, saying voters are hungry for an alternative to the status quo who would dramatically cut the federal government.

This hurt McCain. Barr is libertarian for sure. But some uninformed will think he's conservative.

I agree, and some of the "less educated" whites Hillary was talking about. You got some folks who would vote for a rabbid polar bear before they voted for Obama, cause the bear is white.

Speaking of that, when I first saw Barr, my wife and I said (and we are black)....ummm, he looks like someone who had a "slavemaster sneaking out to the slaves quarters" somewhere in his background. He seems awfully dark skinned.

Did he have his baggage with him. He has some baggage from his congressional days. He was a House Manager and led the Clinton Impeachment. He had some skeletons in his closet. I think he worked for ACLU after leaving Congress. I dont think he has the resume that would cause a McCain voter to get on his wagon. The wheels will come off very shortly. I can see a Clinton payback in his future. I dont think any Repubocans missed him after he slithered away.

God I love this country, this is justice served up cold, Barr will take up 3% to 5%, but Obama does not need it he will win in a landslide. McCain can barely remember who is fighting in Iraq let alone debate Obama. this is funny.

Barr will detract from McCain's message this hurts him badly.

I agree. Like many libetarians, they actually sound like staunch conservatives if one gets thier info from soundbites only.

But anyone looking into his background would know he's far from a right wing conservative.

When I hear libertarians, I often find my self saying "Hmmm, Damn right, I can agree with that" but in the same breath they can say things that cause me to think "thats the far right thing I've heard"

I'm not a fan of Barr by any means. But I love it when he slams the far right.

He wont take any McCain voters. He will gather votes from Obama. He will get liberals who are racist and wont vote for a black person. That is where he will get his votes. I dont see him as a factor once they know his back ground. Now Flap Jack Bauer is getting into the race.. Then there is the problem of getting on the ticket in all of the states and money. All of them put together would not even come close to Perot.

He got out of Congress at the same time Dick Armey got out,both went to work for far left liberal organizations. They went where the moneyn is and that is why you have not heard much from them in years. I dont see Barr as worth a hill of beans in this election. Wait until the liberals come together at their convention, you will see some unknown pop up because they wont trust him with his baggage and back ground.

I believe this candicy provides a spot light on the problems the republican party has with McCain not being republican enough. There are at least 5% of male white voters that will vote for him becsause they won't vote for McCain, these middle aged white men are McCains core, so yes this does provide a problem for Mccain.
