Rookie defensive back Jimmie Ward endured a tough baptism in his first home game with the 49ers, allowing three touchdown passes to the Chicago Bears' Brandon Marshall in a 28-20 defeat. "It's only going to get me better," said Ward, the 49ers' first-round draft pick out of Northern Illinois.

Northern Illinois Huskies head coach Rod Carey announced Tuesday that sophomore quarterback Drew Hare will get the start this Saturday night at UNLV. Hare was the third quarterback used in the Huskies' 23-15 win over Northwestern this past week, coming in for the second half and resetting NIU's stagnant offense.
