The U.S. Naval Academy is building on efforts to increase student diversity with the help of a new commercial and a graphic novel.

Please remember that it is not always Diversity the Race or Gay care that needs to be addressed. It is that everyone's voice in matters counts and that Unit for the Greatist number is important also. I am sorry to say I am over the Race & Gay thing I am sure this years ellection and the congress of the US will have that covered in the new the rest of the year. Plese lets move on- Juse get it done and then you do not have to waist money on Commercials. By better body armer they are going to need it, no matter who or what they are

I guess Annapolis wil be dropping its standards to allow more underqualified mids in, I hope the dont allow the test for nuclear physics be taken in crayon. They must want to keep up with the civilian schools rape stats, since apparently the football quarterback didnt get to abuse enough girls.

They are dropping the standards and giving them more chances to get their requirements in, its very sad. The new Dean expects the Students and LT's to tutor these kids in math when they get there from naps class which is suppose to get them up to speed. These kids will just be holding the class back. You take a kid that is white and at the top of his/her class and they have to wait to see if they can get in, but be black and in the lower part of the class and show interest in the Academy and your in and they will do all the paper work to get you in.

I agree with all you say except about the QB, that was a frame job, He lost everything while the girl that was feeling guilty about fooling around on her boyfriend is still in the Navy and she had total amnisty. She was more in the wrong then him.

As far as standards - USNA does not lower standards. This campaign is designed to communicate an opportunity to a qualified group that otherwise would be unaware. The white population is quite knowledgable about the advantages of military service - especially as an Officer, other minority communites do not have the same historical pass down.
As far as diversity - it is the face our military (race and gender). The advantages to a world wide force is obvious. The military is seeking potential Officers to succeed - available numbers are decreasing every year. Minorities are the educated professionals of the future - they are the future of the military as well. |

USNA does lower their standards to raise the number in minorties the last couple of years, There are a lot more people of color in NAPs, which has most likely always been the case, but the difference now is they can still come to the USNA even though they don't have a grade higher then a 2.0. They will make their exceptions for them and hope tutoring will help. Why would a 3.6 GPA minority student want to come to the USNA or any of them really (granted there are some and thank you to them)when they can get into almost any top notch college in the country almost all paid for with the extra grants and scholarships that they only qualify for. If the come to an Academy they will owe at least 5 years of service, if they go to a top notch Private or Public College, they will own nothing and can get any great job when they complete there. Any business would be crazy not to want to hire a minority of that caliber.

I think you are getting E.O. mixed up with diversity the military doesn’t want to drop their standards.>> look at it like this. If their are 10 people in a room trying to solve a problem and you only talk to 6 of them, then how can you make the best decision.

I'm all for EO, if your qualified to get in , then by all means you should be allowed in, but I can say for a fact the USNA have dropped their standards for minorities to get better numbers and its going to hurt the good students and the Navy/Marines down the road. Even for the enlisted ranks I feel Race and Sex should not be a factor in promotion but it does, if they want to be really fair to all, take race and sex off any application and just go on merits. I don't see that ever happening
