UM football fans want to be proud again

To get a feel for why the Miami Hurricanes ' game against Florida State on Saturday is important for reasons other than the rivalry or the Atlantic Coast Conference, consider the recent scene at Khalil Jones' ...

As long as Coach Shannon keeps showing his stunning desire to throw a cold bucket of water on his own team by taking out his hot Quarterback when the team is going well with that Quarterback. He has done it the Carolina and Gators game and shot himself in the foot. Great recruiter, lack of understanding on how psychology and emotions and momento work in life and the world of sports. If he had done it just this once, perhaps we could forgive and forget but he did the same thing at Florida when the Canes were playing the Gators almost even and as soon as he took our Marve out at Gainesville the same thing took place.

Randy, if this is what you are then we suggest that you pick yourself a nice assistant coaching post and recruit recruit recruit or whatever because you have put yourself out of the ACC running last week.

my goodness..i love that miami has gone out nd played the big 3 immediatly....that is a great test of your football team. uf is a top 7 team this year and even if they lose its a better team than fsu and miami...right now...lots of untested guy on all 3 teams...but great athletes!! anwyay...even though this year all 3 big 3 play each other...they should pay every year.....i know all the excuses, but just like in high school the best teams are from florida, texas and california. florida has 5-6 legitimate D-1 schools that are quality...even if they lose alot and don't have the nicest facilites...please...the state is filled wit nice places and crapholes like every big city. texas has maybe 3-4 quality teams....and cal has 3-4 quality teams....florida takes the cake on that...

What a shame, that the Canes have to play on a baseball dirt field. What other college team, has to do the same? Don't the owners of Dolphins Stadium (or whatever it's called this season) have enuf money to cover the infield portion of the field with grass, for football games?

It's an embarrassment to S. Florida!

To some extent I agree that he needs to leave Marve in the game when he is doing well. On the other hand, Harris is a great QB and is only one play away from running the team if Marve is hurt. Shannon needs to get him time on the field during the game. I just don't think the timing in the NC game was right. Play him the last seven min. of the 4th Q if the game is out of reach either way, but don't put him in when Marve is moving the team and we are building a lead.

Complaining about a dirt infield is laughable. You should focus on the high school level attendance. Fair weather fans ...

I have to agree about the quarterback issue.
FSU is coming into this game having benched the only QB to have beaten the Canes in years. They are putting in an inexperienced kid and have a whiner as a back up.
Ponder could do well, except he has not seen the speed and athletic ability of a team like UM. I imagine they will play Richardson because he continues to run his mouth.
Even though I am a Nole, I ask the UM defense to put a few good hits on Richardson, especially in the mouth area.
Thank you and will see you tomorrow!

Folks, the article is about what it will take to get people to attend games. It is not about the QB controversy.
During the summer, my three sons who reside in NY let me know that they'd like to come down for a game as they do each year. We settled on the 9/27 UNC game and on the first day tickets were available I went online and bought five tickets. They were good seats, Section 112, Row 1. They
were $95.00 each plus handling or a total of $100.00 for a total cost of $500.00. The game time was tba.
All summer I fretted about the game time, praying that it would be anything but noon since those seats
like most at Dolphin Stadium were directly in the sun. A week or so before the game they announced a noon start.
We lathered up with 70spf sunblock
and got a little break in that it was mostly cloudy but it was an ordeal sitting out there all afternoon.
The alternative? Relax at home with the beer much cheaper and the a/c on and watch the game on ESPN2.
So here is my recommeendation to UM on how to get fannies in the seats:
1. lower the ticket prices.
2. no noon starts (I know TV calls the shots but you can't have it both ways)
3. stop ripping off your customers.
Our seats listed for $95.00 plus shipping and handling. That was $5.00 each ticket more or $25.00 total shipping. The tickets came to me in one envelope with postage on a presort basis of 37 cents total. So UM pocketed $24.63 additional revenue
for nothing.
Dr. Shalala: we ARE Canes fans but we don't appreciate being abused for being Canes fans and the way UM is going about this is fan abuse and until it stops, the stands will not be filled.

We can set the tone here," Jones said. "They are kind of iffy, Miami fans. They go with the wind.

That about sums up the "yew"....

from one of their own players no less....

Should be a good game sat. though...

It is interesting how 4 weeks ago I was getting yelled at about how Miami fans were so much better than UF fans, now people like "The Truth" are crying that it's too hot to go see the Canes play. Bull, the Gator game started at 12:30 and it was a sold out crowd: 90,106 vs. 35,830 that showed up to Dolphin Stadium. If you didn't want the sun in your face you could have moved to the home side, there were certainly enough open seats.

I was also stunned to find out the ticket I agreed to (said: sure I'll go with you guys) was $100+ face for a private university's mid-season college football game.*WTF. My last Orange Bowl tickets were $100. Good luck keeping the Dade county residents as regular spectators. Every other sporting event in town is less expensive. I also know many boosters who did not renew when UM moved to Joe Robbie. Now , I see why.

Don't get me wrong. I'm stil going. I'll be the one with the UF jersey.

football and the economy go in cycles. what you need to look for is a little improvement each wk. first half good; then as the team gets stronger the second half doesn't fall off. remember the yrs butch was bldg the team? the dec ucla game? watching it you just knew that the next season would be great. and it was.

I am also an NC resident and work with Tar Heel Fans, but I am still die hard Canes too!!! The fans that have been hiding these last couple of years should be ashamed of themselves!!! I have no doubt that the U is on the rise again in Football, and still very much in the hunt for the ACC. Got to bounce back here against FSU. Fair weather Canes fans STOP HIDING AND GET OUT THERE AND SUPPORT THE CANES!!! If I was still living in South Florida I would be there!!!

It must be tough to be proud when you lose to your in-state rival by more than 3 TDs.
Then you lose to your former coach.

Good luck beating FSU this week, NOT!

Yeah, the crowd was shockingly small. I know Miami doesn't traditonally draw well, both NFL and college, unless the team is winning, but that small a crowd? Come on!
I got an idea, I live in Hawai'i and we play night games here. People have things to do during the day like going to the beach and watching their kids play soccer. I full understand playing day games in the northern latitudes from mid-October on becuase of the cold at night, but not in Miami.
