UMBC coach extends stay
“He has done an outstanding job and is deserving of this contract extension”
UMBC's best NCAA Division I basketball season earned coach Randy Monroe a six-year contract extension through the 2013-14 season, the school announced yesterday.
'The message I get is that Randy Monroe and UMBC go hand-in-hand,' Monroe said.
Monroe, 46, produced the school's first America East Conference championship and its first NCAA tournament berth in Division I this season. The Retrievers (24-9) rose after five straight losing seasons.
The program improved in each of Monroe's four seasons as coach after 10 years as an assistant at the school. His career record is 58-64. Read more
