Ex-Husky Kelly Lands At Kansas State

Curtis Kelly, who announced in April he would transfer from UConn, has landed at Kansas State.

Kelly, a 6-foot-9 forward from New York, will have to sit out one season and will have two years of eligibility remaining when he joins the Wildcats under coach Frank Martin in 2009-10. He also considered UNLV.

Kelly, one of UConn's top recruits in the high school class of 2006, appeared in 51 games in two seasons with the Huskies, averaging 2.4 points and 2.2 rebounds. Upon deciding to transfer, he said, 'I feel I will have a better opportunity and get more out of my college experience if I go somewhere else. 'I respect Coach [Jim] Calhoun and will miss my teammates and the many friends I have here at UConn. I know that the guys here will have a great chance to do some special things next year, but I needed to be true to what will make me happy.' Not steady enough as a power forward and without a consistent shot to make him a threat at small forward, Kelly never seemed to fit in at UConn and fell to the bottom of the rotation. An elbow injury kept him out of the last six games of the 2007-08 regular season.

Technically speaking...he is transferring up. Kansas State made it to the second round. UConn lost in first round. Yes i know...their star was drafted last night, but still...sorta funny.

These bumbs think they are better than they are. They will still be bumbs and bench players at Kansas too. They think they will play more and make it to the NBA is they transfer. Give me a break!

Good luck Curtis. However, as for "transferring up" let's get real here. Don't expect to see Kansas State in the top 10, 20 OR 50 best NCAA teams next year.

I coach basketball, and I think that Curtis has to step up and actually work more on his game then worrying about where he is playing.Playing time is earned, not giving, anywhere you go(not Rice anymore). People need to stop worrying about where he is going, just hope that he educates himself on and off the floor to the best of his ability.Keep your head up Curtis!!!!

Good luck Curtis. Practice hard and play hard, it's the only way to get more playing time. I wish you well.

That's true. But in all honestly, does it matter? Tournament time counts. I don't care where they are ranked, if they win they win. UConn was ranked top 25 most season but lost so badly in first round it was just awful.

kansas state though was kansas state because of beasley. And curtis will not go to UConn with 2 points a game and expect to be an awesome starter at kansas state. Yes, he will get more court time, and i think that was his main goal.
