Notebook: McMackin eyes specials starters

It's one thing to use starters as kick returners. It's another to employ them in other special teams roles.

i really like this coach...special teams is vital and your walk-ons is as vital...at hawaii there is alot of walk-talent bcause of the competition and the ONLY one football team...if you can create turnovers on the road...block punt...score on defense...tip pass....aphysically tough close-knit team can bring home the w...TRUE STORY...COACH MAC WILL BE GOOD 4 HAWAII...UNTIL WE SEE YA AT SWEENEY FIELD

"The other side of that, though, is that he wants to allow all players who practice to suit up and be on the sideline for home games...."

I think pure walk-on running back Daniel Libre deserves a scholarship. He really deserves it.

It's seldom that I say this, but every before-mentioned comment is right on the money. And for once, not one hater on the blog, although I may be speaking too soon. maybe alice & Mach5Motor"mouth" haven't gotten up from their siestas yet.

Last year UH football was near magic. It was great for Hawaii. JJ leaving UH was the 2nd best thing he did, coaching UH is the 1st, but it got old and he was using smoke and mirrors.

With coach Mack, the excitement is taken up a notch and there seems to be instant improvement. Especially with recruiting, and the empasis on basic fundamentals.

This year's team will be better than last year's, even though they may not win 12 games. If you could put this years team with last years schedule, there would hardly be doubters about going 12-0. This team could very well get 9 wins and be 3-2 against bcs teams. Not a bad rebuilding year after losing almost all your offense.

The big key this year is the defense and overall team speed.

30+, gotta take the points, even if they played on the sun...
