LEXINGTON, Ky. - University of Kentucky wide receiver Randall Cobb on Monday was named a first-team all-purpose player on The Associated Press All-Southeastern Conference team.

" Representatives of the Gaylord Hotels Music City Bowl announced today the University of Kentucky will represent the Southeastern Conference in the 12th annual Bowl and face off against the Atlantic Coast Conference's Clemson University.

LEXINGTON I realize this is a backhanded compliment if there ever was one, but I'll say this for Coach Rich Brooks at least he's brought the UK football program back to the point where they: A. Play in big games, and B. Occasionally lose such games in a painful fashion, like Saturday's 30-24 overtime loss here to the Tennessee Volunteers.

The game itself was supposed to be the end of an era. Kentucky had lost to Tennessee 24 straight times, a history that plagued UK's football program longer than some Big Blue Nation fans had even been alive.

Rich Brooks has spent the last four seasons rewriting history at Kentucky. From turning from victim to bully against hated Louisville to knocking off perennial Southeastern Conference powers to qualifying for bowl games with regularity, the Wildcats have become respected - if not always feared - under their eternally optimistic coach.

But it will get chilly in Commonwealth Stadium tonight, although mid-40s isn't bad under the circumstances.
