Former Ucf QB: Motivation far different than intimidation
“He's a good coach, but he's a disrespectful person”
For a coach, there is a fine line between motivation and intimidation. One pushes you into excellence. via The Orlando Sentinel

What an awful article.
I'm sorry that you sucked as a QB steven. I'm sorry that you didn't like people yelling at you. But that's the coach GOL is. If you wanted a coach that will be your "buddy," you should of went to USF. And hey Sentinel, that being said, to flat out say GOL killed Ereck...you should be sued for libel. Totally Unaceeptable. I will do my best Shannon to see that YOU get fired, not GOL. You just pissed off A LOT of powerful people. |

So basically you are blaming George O'Leary for Ereck Plancher's death?
You are a horrible human being. How about at least waiting for the autopsy report that will indicate an undiagnosed heart condition? Of course not...you are just another money hungry person looking for blood money out of the tragic passing of Mr. Plancher. Why don't you call his parents again and make them cry some more so you can make a story with the headline: "Evil George O'Leary Makes Parents of Dead Player Cry." Heck, why not run with what you've already got? "Former UCF Player says O'Leary would have killed his dog if he had the chance." You are rotten. |
|
|
Wow, yet another tasteful piece from this crap rag. Seriously, what the hell is wrong with you people, do you realize you are dragging Ereck's good name through the dirt with all of this crap. Why don't you go interview Kevin Smith, a player that was actually good at what he did, and not some washed up QB that handle the pressure. This paper has lost the last small piece of respect that the UCF community had for it.

Wow, deleting responses, funny a newspaper engaging in censorship.
Why not call up Terry Dean and ask him what he thought of Steve Spurrier. |

All I can say is this is laughable. I mean spend one hour with L. Hoppes and you will know where all these crazy articles come from. The Sentinel is a bunch of average journalists from out of town big name schools who think they are bigger than Orlando and most definitely UCF.
I mean we all know you hate UCF but why rub it in by showing that they started a complete crybaby for two years. If anything all I can tell by this string of anti-UCF articles is that UCF has recruited second rate athletes posing as D1 players. Somebody from the obituaries please tell the sports department that somebody died and these articles are not making the situation better. Let's actually do some journalistic justice and get some facts before running stories off of quotes from athletes. |

Hey "2nd in the state" before you accuse everyone that lives in Orlando of disagreeng with the article take a look at the first 5 comments.People from, Atlanta, Gainesville, Tampa, and Pinellas Park..Obviosuly many other people living elsewhere think this newspaper has made some very sketchy articles. RIP Ereck

This was a horrendous article. Moffett was a reeking, reeking disaster of a quarterback. Did the author of this article even ATTEND a game Moffett started...ever?
I, for one, wish O'Leary would have cursed him harder. As a loyal fan, I certainly spent a good amount of time doing that myself. There are about a thousand different things I could say about this poor article...I posted a more exhaustive rant at http://thepersistentfool.blogspot.com There's really no limit to the extent to which I disagree with this article. |

We should dump O'Leary before it gets any worse. He should just retire and enjoy life in the Villages instead of spending his days cursing at kids.
|

O fcourse he cut you down Stephen...you threw more INT's than TD's. I'm sorry GOL made you feel bad. Nobody should feel bad. We should coddle everyone to their deepest level of comfort. GOL isn't runnung a charm school, he's a FOOTBALL COACH. If you can't take a little cursing out for bad performance, especially from a lazy QB who's supposed to lead the team, but instead (by hid own admission) got complacent and relaxed, then quit the team.

The author of this article knows nothing about the topic on which she writes. Moffet turned down UF? Georgia? South Carolina? That bum would have been the backup scout team quarterback at any of those schools. He was the worst quarterback to play for UCF in the last 20 years (not exaggerating). I coach high school baseball and deal with whiny prima donnas like Moffet all the time. He was a little stud in pop warner and high school so everyone told him how great he was. He is too emotionally weak to handle the criticism. In general, it's a problem with a lot of youth sports. Kids get to high school and college having never been told how good or bad they really are and it's not healthy. If every kid gets a trophy and a medal just for participating, we will raise a generation of them who would like everything handed to them and who can't handle failure and the subsequent criticism.

Really? A college football coach cussed out a player??? This is big news. I'm sure Woody Hayes, Steve Spurrier, or Urban Meyer never did such a thing.
What a foolish article and stupid reasoning from the author of it. I bet they don't cuss at recruits and when they go to the military. Or law enforcement school. I can't speak to Moffett's character as a person so I will assume he is a standup guy. However, he was a horrible football player. He actually DID lose UCF football games by himself. What coach wouldn't be pissed? All that being said, I hope none of this cover up stuff is true. RIP Ereck Plancher. |

|
Does anyone seriously think O'Leary will still be the coach at UCF next year?
Really, dude has brought more negative exposure than positive. If players - former and current - are speaking out against him, recruiting will hit the dumps. And oh yeah, he's being accused of leading a young man to his death. Time to retire, Mr. O'Leary. |

I live in Orlando (Metro West area). I don't know where they get Palm Bay from. So that don't mean anything. The Sentinal is pro UCF. I agree that it's more about UF in Orlando then anything. There hasn't been any write up about UCF audit. COVER UP??? |
|
This article must be wrong! Coach O'Leary just said in his attack interview the other day that he does not use bad language. He said he is above that stuff. Now we all know his word is as good as the loan documents for the 9.5 million to the UCF athletic association. Pay those tuition dollars UCF students daddy needs some cash for the buffet line.

what a piece of sh!t newspaper.
|
|
Wasn't it only 4.5 million? Maybe you should get your facts right. And I'm pretty sure EVERY state school had serious issues in their audits. Heck, USF had a terrorist and a rapist on their staff for quite a long time! There do Audits to find problems, and fix them. Somebody messed up. It'll be fixed. Get over yourself. |
|
Well if you live in Metro West you're problem a Criminal ;) How is UCF pro-UCF? They have NEVER been pro-ucf. They only cover the knights because they are hometown team and feel like they NEED to. But whatever. UCF is graduating thousands of people every year. UCF is what, the 6th largest school in the country? In the next decade UCF will own Orlando and UF will have to fight it out with USF & FSU as the 2nd favorite team. |

Ugh, why isn't there a edit option on this...grr
Please ignore any typos..thanks =) |

1. Moffett has found an opportunity to trash talk as retaliation for O'Leary seeing through his lousy attitude and even worse play. If he was so good why is he playing the AFL 2? A good player would have have the veracity to rise above that.
2. While I disagree with the Sentinels point of view with regard to the issues surrounding the death of a seemingly incredible human being...I do applaud them for taking on a tough issue. However, your basing articles on inuindo and rumors is poor reporting at best...and crimnal at the worst. Check your facts and wait for the autopsy results before reporting everything as fact. 3. Kyle Hightower is a joke. He regularly miss quotes, gives erronious facts and leaves out pertinent information. Sentinel, get a real writer to cover UCF. 4. George O'Leary is not there to be everyones best friend. He has to be tough. A good leader balances toughness with compassion. O'Leary has done a good job in setting the standards and raising the bar for academic improvements as well as taking the football program to the next level ( along with Tribble and Hitt). Look back at the greatest coaches and business leaders in history...they were not all milk and cookies...they were tough! 4. If there are genuine concerns with the death of this player and the subsequent issues then do something about it. So far all that has come up is "red flags" that there MIGHT be an issue. When there ar warning signs then the next step is to properly investigate. Is there an independent investigation happening? If not, why doesn't the University propose such an approach? If not the University, what about the state or NCAA looking into the matter? UCF has done an independent investigation...where is the checks and balances to that process? |
|
LOL @ all the UCF boosters protecting O'Leary. What's funnier is all these comments about "What? You can't take a little cursing?" What's really sad is the fact that you thinking any type of cursing meant to cut somebody down -- whether its sports or otherwise -- is acceptable. But your uneducated, ill-informed Southern mentality deems it all part of "becoming a man." How pathetic. I bet you're all God-fearing Christians, too. Ha ... these posts are hilarious. No human being, sports coach or otherwise, has the right to tear another human being down like O'Leary has. It's that simple, really. Yeah, Moffett's stunk worse than anyone who's ever thrown a ball; but that's besides the point. O'Leary should be fired if UCF has the spine ... otherwise, they're simply condoning a tragic accident that more than likely could have been avoid. And all in the name of sports. Wow.
