Scout talk: 2009 college players
Now that the 2008 draft is history, scouts are already starting work on 2009. In fact, the National Scouting meetings to discuss all 2009 prospects will be held May 18-23 in Amelia Island, Fla. Months before the first kickoff of the college season, these are the highest rated seniors for the next draft: 1. Fili Moala, DT, USC. A big, powerful, explosive player who can stuff the run and rush the passer, Moala has a quick first step and is very disruptive. Plus, he knows how to use his hands.
2. Eugene Monroe, T, Virginia. He was so good at left tackle that Virginia coach Al Groh decided to keep Branden Albert, the 15th pick of the 2008 draft, at guard. Monroe was the No. 1 offensive line recruit in the country heading into college. He has size, athletic ability and long arms. Read more

U.Va. puts seven on all-state football first team
Seven Virginia football players have been selected to the Virginia Sports Information Directors Association (VaSID) all-state team.
Senior Chris Long, the Ted Hendricks award winner as the nation's best defensive end, was named the state's Division I defensive player of the year. Senior tight end Tom Santi, junior guard Branden Albert and senior punter Ryan Weigand joined him on the first team.
Senior center Jordy Lipsey, junior tackle Eugene Monroe and sophomore defensive end Jeffrey Fitzgerald were named to the second team. Read more
