As if the sight of 10 United States Naval Academy Midshipmen with "eight years" spelled out on the back of their blue coats at midfield was not inspirational enough, Army had even more motivation Saturday for ending its humbling losing streak against Navy.

Navy continued its record winning streak over archrival Army, although not nearly with as much ease as the Midshipmen had become accustomed.

But Dobbs recovered nicely from one of the worst performances of his young career, leading Navy to a 38-22 victory over Western Kentucky in front of a crowd of 29,009 on the 50th anniversary of the first game at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium. He had a hand in all five of the Midshipmen's touchdowns, and reached 100 yards in both rushing and passing.

Navy may have just put this game away with a defensive stop followed by an 80-yard touchdown drive.

Quarterback Kriss Proctor returned to practice on Monday and head coach Ken Niumatalolo said that means fellow sophomore Mike Stukel will go back to playing slotback.

Ross Pospisil remembers what it was like when he was a freshman, playing linebacker for Navy's junior varsity team. He was, he admits with a laugh, occasionally clueless and had to rely on fellow freshman linebacker Tony Haberer.

'He was coming from [the Naval Academy Preparatory School], so he was the guy that knew everything,' said Pospisil, now a senior and Navy's defensive captain. 'In JV games, on every play I was like, 'Tony, I don't know what to do!' He was like, 'Go B-gap!' '

Pospisil and Haberer are now the Midshipmen's starting inside linebackers and help anchor one of the team's most experienced and talented groups. Navy's four starting linebackers -- which includes outside linebackers Ram Vela and Clint Sovie -- are all seniors and have collectively played in 126 games, with 73 starts among them. All four players got their first starts as sophomores, and essentially had to learn on the job.

Navy defensive end Michael Walsh has worked hard to come back from a severe toe injury that required surgery.

Navy coaches grade the film then name Most Valuable Players for each game. The selections for the Louisiana Tech contest were slotback Marcus Curry , left end Jabaree Tuani and wide receiver Gary Myers .
