Martin, St. John's knock off O'Connell
Only a junior, Chris Martin already is one of the veterans for 12th-ranked St. John's. He started as a freshman facing some of the Washington area's top competition and remembers what it felt like playing on consecutive sub-.500 teams.
This year, though, things are different. And with Martin leading the way on Tuesday night, the host Cadets got off to a quick start and never trailed in a 71-63 victory over fourth-ranked O'Connell in a Washington Catholic Athletic Conference game.
Martin scored 10 of his game-high 19 points in the first quarter and St. John's (5-1, 2-0) used its defense to help build its advantage.
