Gregory provides an immediate boost in return from suspension
Blog excerpt from voices.washingtonpost.com/terrapins-insider
Junior forward Dino Gregory started and played 33 minutes Saturday in his first game back from an eight-game suspension. Coach Gary Williams said he did not anticipate Gregory seeing that much court time against Eastern Kentucky, but the circumstances of the game (the pesky Colonels did not fade until the final eight minutes of Maryland's 83-72 win) demanded Williams keep his top players on the floor.
Against an Eastern Kentucky squad that used its big men as its primary long-range threats, that meant Gregory received many of the minutes that otherwise might have been distributed to freshman forwards Jordan Williams and James Padgett. In addition to possessing more experience, Gregory was better suited to guard the Colonels' agile forwards than was Jordan Williams.

Vasquez says he is 'really angry at myself'
For the first time in more than three weeks, Maryland senior guard Greivis Vasquez was made available to speak with reporters, and over the course of 15 minutes Friday at Comcast Center he openly discussed and evaluated his performance thus far in his final collegiate campaign.
'I'm disappointed,' Vasquez said. 'It's horrible. I'm really angry at myself. I've worked too hard. I let so many things bother me, and I wasn't myself. And then we lost three games that we should have won. And it was all because supposedly the best player and the leader of the team didn't do what he needs to be doing, and I take responsibility.'
It's hard enough to stay close when the opponents have 11 three-pointers in the first half.
Terps get in the zone on the defensive end
Maryland guard Eric Hayes knows his coach's preferred tactics. The Terrapins, as they have much of the past two decades, remain reliant on man-to-man defense.

Maryland is courting a signature early win
The pocket ace Maryland held throughout both its struggles last season and its strong finish was a November victory over a top five opponent. When Selection Sunday came, the Terrapins were on the figurative bubble, and although it never will be known how much their win over then-No. 5 Michigan State in a Thanksgiving weekend tournament helped them earn a No. 10 seed, the achievement certainly provided a considerable push.
So far this season, Maryland (5-2) stands without such a signature nonconference victory, and its final opportunity to claim one comes Sunday night, when the Terrapins will take on No. 3 Villanova (7-0) in the BB&T Classic at Verizon Center.
Terps get in gear, pull away from Indiana
Maryland coach Gary Williams didn't call Tuesday night's game here at Assembly Hall a must-win for the Terrapins so early in the season, but he certainly didn't want to look back on the Big Ten/ACC Challenge meeting with the Hoosiers the same way he did on last week's trip to Hawaii.
