The curtain raises on Purdue's season of great expectations. The No. 7 Boilermakers take on Cal State Northridge tonight at Mackey Arena as both teams play their first game.

Robbie Hummel helped No. 7 Purdue get off to a blazing start Friday and the Boilermakers went on to crush California State-Northridge 89-64. Hummel scored 17 points, making 6-of-9 shots from the field.

Purdue hasn't been to a Final Four since 1980, but with all five starters back from last season's team that reached the regional semifinals, the Boilermakers might have an opportunity at making the one-hour drive to Indianapolis in April.

SCOUTING THE NEWCOMERS: There are a number of newcomers who could play prominent roles this season, including sophomore Vinnie McGhee and juniors Dathan Lyles, Rashaun McLemore, Lenny Daniel and Kevin Menner.
