How well did they do after he left? I could provide many more examples if need be. Calhoun is a god in the world of college sports. Uconn was a pathetic nothing college in ALL regards before he came. Because of him AND Gino, Uconn has become a household name. The school has been upgraded significantly since he arrive. You now have a D1 football team because of him, etc.
Jim Calhoun is about the most decent, hard working coach I have ever seen. The kind of man you would wish could be your dad. He demands excellence, pushes kids and defends them to his death. He is as old school as you get, and any old timer that talks about how coaches don't run the show, or how bad kids are today would be a fool to bash him on any level. Is he perfect, heck no, but the man has passion running through his veins. It is no doubt that for a few years Uconn had more players in the NBA than any other college program which is why the graduation rate is so low. Many players left early to the NBA. That's called success any way you slice it.
Jim and Gino, please stay at Uconn until the day you both die. Uconn will never be the same when you leave.
