Keselowski Off to Strong Start in Chase

Keselowski used a three-wide pass of Kyle Larson and Kevin Harvick at Chicagoland Speedway on Sunday to win the opening race of the Chase for the Sprint Cup championship. The victory automatically advances Keselowski into the second round of the 10-race Chase, which will eliminate four drivers every third race under NASCAR's new format.

Hessert wins in wild ARCA finish at Salem

Tom Hessert won for the fifth time in his career Saturday and third time at Salem Speedway, but it's safe to say he has never won like this before. Hessert grabbed the lead from Mason Mitchell with 12 laps to go, then held on and beat Mitchell despite both cars bouncing off each other and the wall coming out of the final turn of the 200-lap event.

Fatal motorcycle crashes on the rise in North Texas

Brian Johnson, 27 of Quinlan, and Tiffany Chu, 25, of Richardson were killed when their motorcycle slammed into a guardrail in the 3000 block of Interstate 635 at 2:13 a.m.. Jose Tarin, 23, was killed when the motorcycle he was driving hit a vehicle in the 11000 block of northbound Interstate 35W at 12:50 a.m. Josh Cain, 21, of Bedford, was killed when he hit an SUV on Pipeline Road about 10 p.m..

NASCAR enters playoff era with March Madness-type format

In 2004, NASCAR went to the Chase format to determine the Sprint Cup champion, a gimmicky change aimed at giving the racing community a playoff-type feel similar to other professional sports. A bigger field was needed, in NASCAR's mind, so it expanded to 12 drivers in 2007 and made a couple of minor changes to the points system.

Kyle Busch Gets Pole for Chase Opener at Chicago

With rain in Friday's forecast at Chicagoland Speedway, the only time on track became a strategy session for the championship contenders. If qualifying was rained out, the field for Sunday's opening round of the Chase for the Sprint Cup championship would be set by practice speeds and teams had to decide if they wanted to focus on simply posting a fast lap to grab a strong starting position.
