Sports Briefs: Nascar postponed; MLB trade; Youth sports camps

<![CDATA[DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (AP) -- The day race at Daytona International Speedway ended up at night. And now the night race will go off during the day. Steady rain forced NASCAR to postpone the Sprint Cup race at Daytona International Speedway on Saturday night. It's the second race at Daytona this year delayed by rain. The season-opening Daytona 500 was stopped for more than six hours because of rain and ended under the lights. "We seem to have a little bad luck with the weather," said Joie Chitwood III, the track president. "We had it in February and we have it right now." The Coke Zero 400 will start at 11 a.m. Sunday, about 14 hours after officials postponed the event. The forecast calls for more rain Sunday, but Chitwood said scheduling an early start gives NASCAR a "bigger window of time to get it in." The race was supposed to start at 7:57 p.m. Saturday, but showers soaked the 2 1 2-mile superspeedway and forced officials to delay the green flag and eventually postpone the race. This is the fourth Cup race affected by rain this season and the second to be postponed a day. Bristol also was affected by rain, and Texas was delayed a day. Greg Thomason, who coordinates Big Orange trips to Knoxville to watch University of Tennessee teams, is coordinating a trip on Aug. 9 to watch the Tennessee Titans' NFL preseason game against Green Bay. According to Thomason, about 10 seats remain open for the tip, and the deadline to register has been extended to July 13. The cost of the trip is $73, which includes bus fare, game tickets and tip for the driver. Seats are located between the 45- and 50-yard lines. The bus will leave K-Mart on Old Hickory Blvd. at 3:45 p.m. and return after midnight with kickoff at 7 p.m. For more information, call Thomason at 731-424-8238. University School of Jackson's football program will be hosting its camp July 7-9 with two sessions each day. The first session for children in rising grades 1-6 from 9-11 a.m. each day. The second session is for seventh- and eighth-graders from 1-3 p.m. Cost is $100 per camper, and they will receive a camp t-shirt, one-on-one instruction from USJ coaches and older varsity players and a Fellowship of Christian Athletes presentation. Campers may arrive at USJ's fieldhouse within 30 minutes of the beginning of each session and be prepared to leave within 15 minutes of the end. Shorts, t-shirts and athletic shoes are needed. Both Tiger teams will host a youth camp at the gym at Lexington High School Monday through Wednesday from 9 a.m. until noon. Registration will start at 8:30 a.m. on Monday, and the fee is $40 for boys and girls in grades third through eighth. Campers will get a t-shirt. Milan High's boys' basketball program is hosting a camp for children in rising grades 3-8. July 14-17. The camp will go from 12:30-4:30 p.m. each day and costs $50. For more information, contact Milan basketball coach Dexter Williams at williamsd@milanssd.org. OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) -- Oakland and Chicago announced a big trade on Saturday, with Jeff Samardzija and Jason Hammel heading to the West Coast for a package of prospects that included the A's first-round selections in each of the past two drafts. The Athletics began the day with the best record in baseball, but Beane felt he needed to add depth to a rotation.
