The purple carpet was laid out, purple balloons blown up and the Carver High School marching band could be heard throughout downtown Winston-Salem. Yesterday at 5:30 p.m., stretch limos started to pull up to the curb in front of the Benton Convention Center and the National Black Theatre Festival officially started its 20th anniversary gala.
