Recommended THE SPECIALS: I'm certainly not the first early adopter to get hosed by excessive re-releases. When I bought the complete series of Monty Python's Flying Circus in 2000, it was the crown jewel of my then-fledgling DVD collection--my first major box set purchase , it sat atop my video shelf and soaked in the admiration of all who passed.

A 40th anniversary celebration is a bit conventional for "Monty Python." "We should have had the 37th anniversary or the 41st anniversary; 40 seems too predictable for 'Python,'" says Michael Palin, one of six members of the comedy troupe that launched "Monty Python's Flying Circus" in 1969.
