Kennedy looking to push closer to 200 innings vs. Phillies

Padres right-hander Ian Kennedy will be happy to know he isn't facing the Dodgers at Petco Park on Tuesday, when San Diego continues its four-game series against the Phillies. Even when the 6-foot, 190-pound, Southern California native pitches well against L.A., he hasn't had much success, going 0-3 with a 4.00 ERA in six starts this year versus San Diego's National League West foe.

Despaigne, defense falter as Padres lose series

For as wonderful as it must be for a 20-something rookie to be getting an extended look at the big league level in September, you can imagine the toll the accompanying struggles these players often have can take on a manager. The Padres completed a vexing nine-game road trip Sunday with an 8-6 loss to the D-backs in front of a crowd of 26,075 at Chase Field, a road trip that saw them score six runs on four different occasions -- and also get shut out three different times.
