“Remember, pillage THEN burn” Since: Nov 08

and ...uh....how much are we paying our teachers to educate our children?
What a warped society we live in. I love it pro sports boys call themselves 'heros'. lol |

Most teachers can't hit the curveball. |
Freddi is overmatched at every turn. Hopper in the 9th of a tie game!?! Moves like that lose games. While I agree with your post its apples to oranges..can't blame the players for getting what the market deems is fair. Maybe if a few parents would step up and be role models then kids wouldn't have to look up to these 'heros'......... |
But if the players don't perform their union can't save them regardless of their seniority. Teachers union is much different. Performance means zip. |

They make the big money because they are the best in the WORLD at what they do.
Don't want a teachers salary - learn to hit the slider and the split finger fastball. |

Babe Ruth the the first player to be paid 100k. When asked how he felt about making more money than the Preident of the US, He replied, "I had a better year than he did."

Pro sports guys don't call themselves heroes--some jerk reporter asks them if they are aware that they are heroes to someone. The usual response is that "I'm not a hero, I'm just doing my job", but then some other jerk goes "Whaddya mean, you're not a role model??!!?" and then the rhetoric escalates until no one is able to exercise one whit of common sense. The salaries of professional athletes, CEO, actors, doctors, lawyers, teachers and other assorted professionals is in direct correlation with the amount of money they make FOR SOMEONE ELSE. Alex Rodriguez gets $30 mil a year because someone is willing to pay it. And Georgie figures if I'm spending $250 million a year on a balla club, what's an additional $25 mil for upkeep so that the guys I just paid all this money to have no excuse for being in top physical and mental condition for play every day. If you spent $250 mil every year on a factory, you would expect to pay at least 10% on upkeep. A balla club is no different from an investment perspective. To keep it in perspective, Jeffrey Loria made over $55 million last year and he never saw a pitch. No one beefs when he makes out, but the player has to be the bad guy, right? Not the owner who makes more than 10 players combined. Teachers have never done the proper job of quantifying the cost to the state of NOT providing a compulsory education to Florida's youth. For one student for one year it is the cost of daily child care for 270 days per year, books, janitorial services, transportation, depreciation on the physical plant, emergency services, security, reduced food costs, office supplies, toiletries, increased traffic, and educational equipement. Then comes the pay for the people to run all these things and get your kids to remember enough stuff to actually "learn" something. Add it all up and it sure is more than that lousy $28K that most teachers start around (less if you work in preschool or infant care). This all tells us that our children are our least valued resource, despite all our rhetoric to the contrary. From now on, whenever you hear someone utter the tired cliche "Do it for the kids", make them whip their checkbook and prove it first or SHUT UP!!! |

Big Daddy for President.

Whine on another site. When getting higher education you have many paths from which to choose. The choice is that of those Teachers. |
AMEN |
When people fill up a stadium or tune in the TV to watch someone teach, THEN they will make big money. Besides, three months a year off and bossing around kids all day beats laying sod or doing roofer work.
Cry me a river, teach, this is the life you chose! |
By the way, Go-To-Guy, you misspelled heroes!(not heros) Some teacher you had!
Most pro athletes can't even hit the books, much less count money. That's why most of them are broke when their careers are over. |
Who cares about hitting 600+ home runs when you're a drunk, a lousy husband and father. You think God is going to say, "Oh, you hit 600 home runs, then welcome to heaven"? Hah! |
