Where does the bumper sticker "Keep Santa Cruz Safe and C...

I'm sorry but I'm new to topix so I don't understand your point. are you referring to the massive flame wars ( which looks like all sides have a hand in)that seem to have drowned out much actual discussion?  (Mar 27, 2013 | post #11)

Where does the bumper sticker "Keep Santa Cruz Safe and C...

I'm going to start a Q&A thread about TBSC because other than occasionally reading about them in the paper, I don't know much about who they are and how they operate, who is running it, etc. I did some searching on the internet and I just see quotes from their spokespersons but not much else. I actually thought Keep Santa Cruz Safe and Clean might have been in reference to the bay...I thought it was maybe a surfrider bumper sticker.  (Mar 26, 2013 | post #9)

Maffei deserves huge apologies

I'm not denying his bail was higher and that he probably lacked the money to post a bond. But local budgets and court costs throughout the state are being slashed right and left, actual criminals being released in order to make room for new criminals. how come it took 18 days to resolve that there was evidence disproving his big alleged crime of flower theft? This is the sort of governmental waste that drives me crazy because there is so MUCH wasted money in our legal system. (not to mention that the county had to pay for his public defender as well the assistant DA's time and court costs.) stupid stupid stupid.  (Mar 26, 2013 | post #11)

Was Take Back Santa Cruz Founded by a Criminal?

I don't find a voicemail from a downtown office to be compelling evidence against someone. But I am curious where the evidence for the claim that I've seen that Dexter Cube was/is aligned with Meg Whitman and a conservative agenda. Someone when asked about this point (on Indymedia I think) replied, google it. So I did and I found nothing. Can someone share a link? thanks  (Mar 26, 2013 | post #17)

Is the SCPD effectively ousting Meth from our neighborhoods?

Back in the day, and maybe still, SC mountain communities were notorious for hidden meth labs. They could be isolated, private, and since the cookers were all white (some actually supremacist and biker types as well), they fit in pretty well. I don't doubt some Surenos are into meth but both meth and heroin have been HUGE problems in SC for quite some time.  (Mar 26, 2013 | post #145)

Where does the bumper sticker "Keep Santa Cruz Safe and C...

I know that "keep santa cruz weird" came from Neal Coonerty's support of street musicians and the diverse community of local artists. I think that the "Keep Santa Cruz Safe" t-shirts and bumper stickers seems to be originating from a Facebook group that is comprised of SCPD and their supporters. But where are all the "Keep Santa Cruz Safe and Clean" bumper stickers coming from? Who is behind it and selling them?  (Mar 26, 2013 | post #1)

New York Times examines Santa Cruz culture, safety

The New York Times wrote a story about keeping Santa Cruz safe vs weird? Doesn't that strike anyone as ODD? How does the New York Times come up with such an idea for a story, was it perhaps pitched to them? Or maybe someone offered a de facto press release? How many stories have appeared in both the news and internet blogs about this supposed rift between people who want a safe community in Santa Cruz and those who want it "Weird" and by the ways these stories are being written, unsafe? Thoughts from the peanut gallery?  (Mar 26, 2013 | post #1)

Maffei deserves huge apologies

as a taxpayer, I'm not really sure this is the best uses of resources, keeping someone who allegedly stole some flowers in jail for 18 days. How much does it cost per day to maintain him? I know some drunk guy who supposedly stole flowers makes a great and easy target of local wannabe crime fighters, but in my mind, the much larger issue facing Santa Cruz is the gang and Mexican mob problem. Watsonville is already a mini-Salinas, and quite frankly SC is on it's way.  (Mar 26, 2013 | post #9)
