Prayer vigil urges immigration reform

No, it hasn't always. Nativist movement in 1840s and 1850s was very unwelcoming. Chinese Exclusion Act (1882) was not at welcoming, nor was the Immigration Act of 1924. Nativism has been a part of American history for about as long as there's been immigration.  (Apr 9, 2010 | post #33)

Blame me for illegal immigrants

In fact, what they will do is nothing. No immigration "reform" but also no serious attempt to prevent more illegals. Employers love Mexican labor and they won't be denied.  (Apr 9, 2010 | post #8)

Immigration Reform

Blame me for illegal immigrants

I basically agree with you on this. But there is another dimension to this issue, which is that most Americans, rightly, will not tolerate the wages and conditions that Mexicans will accept. Americans will do any kind of work, but they expect a fair days wage and human conditions. As long as we permit those conditions to exist, we'll have Mexicans.  (Apr 9, 2010 | post #5)

I think they don't represent their parties as they represent those who finance their campaigns. How do you propose to prevent interest groups from financing candidates?  (Apr 9, 2010 | post #1284)
