Some answers for IndyMac clients

I was informed that I lost some money at Indymac even though i was on the phone 2 days before the takeover and was assured that my unisured portions,(mostly interest) would be sent to me by check.Today the Fdic called and said sorry. I am aware that there are plenty of class action suits against the bank, but the claims of depositors rank just below administrative expenses, while stockholders are last.I have not heard a thing about a suit by depositors, only about stockholders. Why?Where can I find information?  (Jul 20, 2008 | post #1)

Men, do not marry an American woman. period********

And I must say that women in the US ( and some other western nations ) have the law solidly behind them.A"deadbe at dad" has no chance to advance in life and will be hounded by the law even if the ex has money and Dad can barely support himself. Also palimony.... and Washington state the worst of all..... where if a man makes the error of moving in with a woman with children,he can be liable for child support after just 1 or 2 years.A lot of single moms will play that game to get a chunk of your meager paycheck. As a woman IL think this hurts all people and instills fear and destroys the building of a trusting relationship. If I were a young man I would endeavour to get out and into some country where the dice are not so loaded against you.If you have the means, vigor and a bit of faith, you might consider moving to another country. But that is much easier said than done for a wide variety of reasons.I feel sorry for western men. Some of the laws meant well, but ended up crushing the chances for men and women (especially the less well-off ) to have a second chance at marriage. It's seems to be all about the $$$$$. The legacy of 40 years of the womens lib lobby: a higher misery index for all.  (Jun 13, 2008 | post #9991)

Mexico: Violence and Crime. Who's next?

If you feel so strongly about it,then give your home and savings to a local tribe.Put your money where mouth is.But I doubt you'd give a nickel.  (Jun 8, 2008 | post #50)

It is hard to beleive that crime in Mexico just falls dramatically once you get past those border towns. It's not true. 250,000 plus citizens took to the streets of Mexico City a few years ago to plead with their government about cracking down on crime and police corruption. And as for those retired gringos: they often live in homes with walls, electronic security, and even pay guards to patrol their areas.OH and also:ever heard of the new sport called "sequestro express"? That's when they know you have savings and they kidnap you,and hold you while everyday you draw out the maximum allowed from an ATM.Good luck when the account balance reaches zero. There is a price to be paid for retirement in corrupt, poor 3rd world destinations. And God Bless all free and just democratic nations on this earth.  (Jun 8, 2008 | post #49)

Survey: Americans make 41 million fewer air trips

Agree totally.....but you forgot to mention another neo-con "Golden Oldie" and that was Newt Gingrich's "Contract with America".That was the same freak who stood over his dying wife's bedside to get her to sign away her assets to him right before she died. What neo-con scum.  (Jun 8, 2008 | post #27)

Peoples' Express and Virgin Atlantic used to $100 fights to Europe. Before them Icelandic was the economical airline but you has to make a 1-2 hr stopover in Reykyavic. All had good service and you could move around to find empty seats if you wanted to stretch out.No charges for food or alcohol.Today the atmosphere for check in and boarding is becoming like preparing for a train ride to Auschwitz.  (Jun 6, 2008 | post #10)

There is a lot of truth to what you say,but don't try to say Mexico is a great and just society. The poor in both Mex and USA have it very tough. The rich can be fine anyplace.  (Jun 4, 2008 | post #41)

You really think Mexico is a safe place? Think:mass anti-crime marches in Mexico,Juarez women murdered for years and "unsolved ",top federal police, judges, jour nalists, routinely assassinated. Yeah...just like the US 50 years ago. Please go there and have fun!  (Jun 3, 2008 | post #39)
