Poll: Americans Divided on Health Care

If I yell and scream and kick like a 3 year old because I don't like what you're saying then that isn't voicing your opinion. Nothing you're doing is advancing the dialogue. If these people have real concerns then a real debate is needed. Drowning out what the speaker has to say and the threat of violence is actually counterproductive to a supposedly democratic society. It goes for both sides of the equation by the way. I feel the same way about the Code Pink people that use to heckle Bush.  (Aug 10, 2009 | post #7)

Poll: Americans Divided on Health Care

The tone of the opposition in such an important debate speaks volumes to the lack of actual intelligence. If you have to speak louder to drown out the other person's point, it is your right to exercise your freedom of speech, albeit in the manner of an 8 year old.  (Aug 10, 2009 | post #5)

Obama: Canadian health-care model wona t work in United S...

It's interesting to note that opponents of health care reform leave out the fact that the reason Canadians wait longer for non essential care is because many of their doctors come south of the border to make more money... Just find it convenient that they leave that fact out...  (Aug 10, 2009 | post #2)

Health care opponent calls for town hall violence via Twi...

I for one wonder why all the opposition to health care reform now? The right held control of 2 of the 3 branches of government for 6 years and never once proposed any solutions to the "small" issue of 47 million uninsured Americans. I also find it funny that all Republican members of Congress currently receive their healthcare from a government run plan...wonder if it is really as evil as they would have us to believe it is...  (Aug 10, 2009 | post #246)

Are you kidding me?!!! John McCain, a former POW who was held in captivity for years, and whose release was negotiated by high profiles is a hypocrite who should know better. The precedent is that there is a time for deliberate negotiations as in this case, and a time to bust heads wide open, as in the case of the Somolian pirates. Fact Check: Distortions rife in health care debate

I find it interesting that those that work for us have better benefits than we do. If you believe in the private system as a person that has survived cancer numerous times, you should be required to go through what every cancer survivor goes through if they lose their jobWe found the money for an ill advised, unproductive war. So am I to believe that we can find the money to kill people but not to help save lives. We are the only industrialized nation with a concept of medical bankruptcies. Our current system is the most inefficient of any "civilized " country. And currently, insurance companies are already bureaucratic, but it is profit driven. Don't for a minute believe that they are in the business of insuring people. They are in the business of generating profitsIt is interesting that the solution is to ignore the fact that for years big business has influenced the debate about health care more that the realities on the ground. For all the proported inefficiencies of the Canadian single payer system, there is one significant number that speaks volumes: there are no uninsured CanadiansIt is part of the overall economic situation. Health care costs currently aren't calculated to include the loss of productivity from injured or sick workers. The costs keep going up, yet the benefits are getting less. All the while, the employee is required to pick up more and more of the tab. And just when you think you've got a handle on your situation, your company switches to another company to control costs. When an estimated 30% of your health care dollar goes to non health care obligations, that tells me there is a lot of room for improvement. I'm not saying the current plan is perfect, but the status quo is unsustainable. And for all their song and dance, there isn't a single opponent of the current proposals that would take their chances with the private system that we currently have.  (Aug 3, 2009 | post #15)

Protesters Trash Health Care Reform

I understand your point...the issue at hand for me is that there are many in government who currently receive the very kind of health care that they seem so bent against allowing the masses the option to have. If "government run healthcare" is so inefficient and scary, isn't interesting that it is the kind of benefits that they receive. If they are so for private options, then they should also lead by example. Obama has repeatedly said that this isn't for him, he has insurance...he has a point. There isn't a single government opponent to this debate that isn't covered by the government system. Just food for thought.  (Aug 3, 2009 | post #15)

Protesters Trash Health Care Reform

I've said it before and it bears repeating... For all of their opposition of government run healthcare, every single GOP representative currently receives GOVERNMENT RUN HEALTH CARE. Does anyone believe John McCain would forgo his current heath care to attempt to purchase coverage on the private market? Hmmm....  (Aug 3, 2009 | post #3)

Fact Check: Distortions rife in health care debate

I believe the very last part of your statement is worth highlighting on its very own just for those who didn't read all the way to the end... Medical Bills Cause More Than Half of Bankruptcies The number of U.S. personal bankruptcies that involved medical bills increased 50 percent in just six years. Sixty-percent of people who filed for bankruptcy had medical bills they could not pay. Of those, more than 75 percent had health insurance but still were overwhelmed by their medical debts. That's the current system at work...and those costs need to be factored into the real cost of the current healthcare system...  (Aug 3, 2009 | post #12)

Fact Check: Distortions rife in health care debate

Am I the only one that finds it interesting that those who are most against a government run health care program currently receive excellent benefits and coverage under a GOVERNMENT RUN HEALTH CARE PROGRAM. If the status quo is so good for the common man, why don't those in Congress who oppose it reject their current coverage and get it on the private market? Just wondering if any of them believe in their B.S. that strongly...  (Aug 3, 2009 | post #7)

The Race Card

The sad thing is, without his connection to Blago, they say Burress is actually a qualified candidate. But you're right, the principle is that his appointment is tainted because of the current legal troubles of the embattled Illinois governor. A white candidate would be going through the exact same thing right now. As a people, we really need to stop playing the race card indiscriminately. Yes, racism still exists, but crying wolf for every perceived injustice is not the way we're going to solve the issue.  (Jan 6, 2009 | post #6)
