Q&A

I am confused. If you are directly struck by a bolt of lightning why do you not explode? The water in the human body should heat up causing the explosion. Also the amount of electrical energy should kill you. If however you are in the near field of a strike, I can see living through it. Can anyone who is knowledgeable in this field explain this?  (Tuesday Jul 29 | post #1)

Bedlam in Bohemia

""" I don't know why he did it," Lynch said. "He was a wonderful kid. He was never in trouble too much . He's always been good ... I didn't know he would turn like this." Online court records show Lynch has a long criminal history and spent time in jail at least three times. An order of protection was issued against him in 2001 after a felony assault conviction, as well as with convictions for criminal contempt in 2000 and 1998. His most recent conviction in New York was in 2005 for misdemeanor drug procession" "" when will these loosers be put away or exterminated so that innocent people can live without fear??? I hope she RIP and the manager recovers.  (Saturday Jul 19 | post #1)

On eve of Flight 800 anniversary, new fuel tank rules to be unv...

I do not believe the govt theory about how 800 went down. However if it was a missle from one of our ships in the area, after 12 years wouldn't someone, a young sailor, or veteran say something?? Even if they were sworn to secrecy, I would thing someone would say something on their death bed.  (Wednesday Jul 16 | post #13)

Long Islanders appalled by New Yorker's Obama cartoon

Since when does newsday speak for LI?? Some may have been appalled, but I would guess most didn't even know about it until newsday made an issue and many found it thought provoking. I for one have not seen PROOF that any of the allegations about the dark side of Obamas life are untrue. You can say all you want, but where do the pictures come from that we have seen? A person can be judged by the friends he/she keeps. I really don't care about his skin color, but I do care about judgement and his committment to ALL of the American people. I also worry about taxing the rich policy. If you think about it taxing the rich more will slow down investment and not make much if any dent in the lives of the less fortunate. This trash talk only makes the less fortunate feel like somone is going to help them.  (Tuesday Jul 15 | post #13)

Obama donors balk at paying Clinton's debt

Lets look at it like an investment. Clinton invested her money in a cause she believed in. It went sour. Her problem. If anyone tried to invest in a business or venture and it went sour, who shoulders the loss? Seems to me it is her problem.  (Thursday Jul 10 | post #10)

FEMA flood maps may force more insurance purchases

Someday people will realize it is not the ELITE on Fire Island who are reaping huge benefits. Perhaps you missed the floods in the mid-west? Far more people needed the flood insurance than on Fire Island. The insurance does not cover all losses and if a house on FI falls over the feds won't let it be rebuilt. The feds will not let anyone fix FI (and the feds caused the problem) and sooner or later there will be breaches that will inundate the South shore of LI. Keep thinking that only a few ELITE people are being helped while you are walking waist high in water on you property.  (Jul 8, 2008 | post #55)

Raceway burn victim's family seeks tough safety rules

Racing in any form is inherently dangerous. Anyone who wants to compete in the sport should use common sense and take all precautions. Rules are good but can not cover everything. You need to think for yourself. I truly hope this youg man recovers quickly and that he will be fully functional again. But it was not the tracks or promoters fault. Gasoline in a tank being pushed into other cars was. That was the risk. Less gas in an approved racing type container might have been the answer.  (Jul 8, 2008 | post #42)

FEMA flood maps may force more insurance purchases

Food for thought. Fire Island is the barrier beach that protects LI from the ocean. Erosion has taken away a lot of sand that was on the island. The cause is the groins out east put in by the Govt and not completed. The Govt (Fire Island National Seashore, NYDEC) will not let you or the residents of Fire Island do much to fix the problem. The Fire Island folks have tried with their own money to do things, only to be thwarted by FINS and the DEC. They have only been allowed to do "cosmetic " repairs. So as I see it, the Govt screwed it up, won't let you or anyone else fix it, and will now charge you for insurance that you probably would not need if Fire Island was nourished with sand. This all goes back to the piping plover and the Seashores need to protect this bird. You are paying a ton of money for the protection of the bird, and now will pay more for insurance. And this is not President Bush's fault. The seashore came there (by invitation) in the 60's. I guess the bird and the natural growth on/around Fire Island take priority over the people in Nassau and Suffolk. The Army concluded years ago that without fixing the problem on Fire Island, much of LI up to Sunrise higway could become waterfront property.  (Jul 8, 2008 | post #28)

State eyes Great Neck water authority boss' retirement

Another example of YILEFTLI. An absolute joke. A water authority is just a group of political hacks that are being repaid for some favors. Try and get a job with a water authority on LI if you are not connected. Seems like all I read is this ones son, nephew, daughter, cousin etc., is in trouble on the job.  (Jun 30, 2008 | post #29)
