Utility to Customers: "Please Don't Use the Charmin"

Please expand your imagination beyond "dogs and cats...wip[ing] with toilet paper". All you have to do is read information about it and what they do. It might just open your eyes, like it did mine years ago. P&G isn't the only company that does this, but they are one of the worst and are totally unapologetic about it. There are so many cruelty-free alternatives to testing on any animals out there, but they totally refust to look at it. I'm not saying this to slam you - not at all - just to possibly get you to think about what some companies are doing. And, yes, I'm NOT a vegetarian, NOT a member of PETA, NOT a radical, just an animal-rights person. They are also those without voices and need our protection.  (Jan 23, 2010 | post #5)

Puppy Dog Napped from Olathe, Kansas Pet Store

Since Petland is a notorious buyer of puppies from puppy mills, I feel for anyone who buys a puppy from there, rather than either using breed rescue or adopting from a shelter. Petland (and others) need to clean up THEIR act.  (Jan 13, 2010 | post #176)

Kansas City Police Search for Missing 14-Year-Old Girl

Another sad aspect of this is that people are going to become immune to the urgency of what an Amber Alert really is. Like the boy who cried wolf too many times, people will begin to start ignoring real Amber Alerts with possibly dire consequences. I know it wasn't issued in this case and although it seemed like a good idea to do it at the time, I'm somewhat glad it wasn't. And Lexi, your comment was totally uncalled for. It is not relevant to the discussion at hand at all. I could make an assumption about you based on where you live, but that would bring me way down to your level and I never want to be there. Please stick to the topic at hand.  (Jan 11, 2010 | post #18)

Utility to Customers: "Please Don't Use the Charmin"

If you need another reason to not buy anything from Proctor & Gamble, then know that they still test on animals - even cats and dogs. If you're an animal lover, please contact P&G and ask them to stop this barbaric practice (especially as there are PLENTY of cruelty-free options out there for testing).  (Dec 18, 2009 | post #3)

Teacher Cuts Off Girl's Braid as Punishment

Unfortunately, it can and probably will leave a lasting impression on the child (and not just because the media was involved). When I was in Kindergarten, I had a student teacher who took away a ring I was looking at and threw it in the trash. It was during testing time, but I was done with the portion of the test we were doing at the time. To keep quiet, I was just looking at this ring my grandpa had bought for me. It wasn't expensive by a long shot, but it was special to ME because my grandpa had bought it for me. I still remember that all these years later - the humiliation of being singled out and the loss of something the teacher didn't value, but I did. It stayed with me for a long time (but, believe me, I'm over it now) and I'm betting this will stay with this child for the rest of her life in some way, shape, or form. Also unfortunately, if the teacher DOES lose her teaching certificate (which should be the least that happens here), she can go to another state and apply for one there. She should never be allowed near children in any capacity again.  (Dec 17, 2009 | post #74)

Teacher Cuts Off Girl's Braid as Punishment

I used to teach severe emotionally disturbed children from ages 7-17, One young man, who was out of control, actually bit me on the hand down to the bone and wouldn't let go. I didn't yell (although I wanted to), I didn't hit him on the head or jerk him around (although the thought did cross my mind), I didn't do ANYTHING back to the student. Yes, I was frustrated, because it hurt like you-know-what, but I would NEVER take out that frustration on a child. He finally let go and I had a trip to the doctor to get a tetanus shot and my hand stitched up. When I saw him the next day, I treated him just like I always had - as a student. I had no thoughts of retribution or anything like that. This teacher has a lot more going on than just a bit of frustration with a kid - I don't care WHAT her behavior was in the past or on the day she had her braid cut off. There are plenty of options for the teacher to use - in school suspension, sending to the principal, phoning the mother/parents, etc - that do NOT include putting her hands/scissors on the child. This teacher needs help and I truly hope she gets it.  (Dec 15, 2009 | post #44)

Could Mangino be Coaching His Final Game for Kansas?

Hmmm, so they don't teach grammar or spelling at KU? I mean, it's obvious from Vick's post that's true. May the best team win, no one get hurt, and the Tigers triumph!  (Nov 28, 2009 | post #2)
