DNA required after felony arrests

BUT you could have been arrested. and an individual can be arrested falsely. it happens I KNOW . step son told cops i punched him, and his sister who wasn't even home verified the accusation, They lied after legal expenses loss ;of pay and spending 3 days in kent county jail all charges as well as any record of an arrest were expunged. Because the cop had it in his mind he was going to arrest somebody. wouldn't listen to my wife myself and my other step son that no such act happened. So from then on i will never call the Wyoming Police for help with an out of control kid again.point is you do not have to have done a crime to be arrested.  (Jan 1, 2009 | post #83)

Let's just start at birth you get your SSN, fingerprinted, and DNA taken along with that little GPS chip implant . How long before this senario becomes a reality? I do not believe that this will become a deterant to crime it will in fact make criminals become more " intelligent" or devious.Fingerprin ting didn't stop repeat offenders nor will DNA samples. Stay outta jail that is great, but what if you are falsely arrested?  (Dec 31, 2008 | post #72)

Seems to me that DNA appears to be all conclusive. So if all are required to submit a sample "you" could be "guilty" if a few strands of hair were yours. All because hair was obtained from Borics,Super Cuts, ect. I'm sorry but if one is proven innocent any arrest records MUST be destroyed. While i also agree that DNA is a great tool i fear that like all tools there are ways to misuse them. To maintain a Data Bank of DNA samples is mind boggling. Just remember that Social Security Numbers were at one time thought to be "secure" . While i dearly love the USA and have served and would again if required,i am getting more and more anti-big government.  (Dec 31, 2008 | post #70)

While you may think your prints are on file there is a good chance that they were destoyed by fire at the military records facility in st. louis. if you need your military records for proof of service you may want to check and see if yours are still intact. FYI i was falsely arrested 2 years ago whereby they took my prints nothing showed up as to my military service or prints. may be non-relevant. served from 72 to to 77 and from 81 to 87  (Dec 31, 2008 | post #68)

That is just plain wrong. While I agree using DNA to prove guilt if you are found not guilty then it should be destroyed just as any records of the arrest are. If one "screws-up " later in life then take a sample then / again. Also while some of the responses think that this may clear up old cold cases; then why not go all the way with DNA collecting and REQUIRE ALL to submit to giving DNA samples and while we are at it have GPS chip implanted so you can be tracked where-ever you are.  (Dec 30, 2008 | post #52)

So do you give the DNA sample before or after you are found guilty? If befor guilt then what happens to the sample when you are found innocent?  (Dec 30, 2008 | post #49)

Tougher rules for non-Michigan returnables

So how much is it going to cost to pick up all these non returnables from Indiana? Lets see a case of coke cans is $2.40.Maybe we need to tax drivers that cross the border to buy cheaper gas?Plus the machines at the stores (i.e.,Meijers)won't accept outta state cans. Now I don't drive from here to Indiana for that $.10 per bottle / can. Now with the cost of gas it isn't profitable to drive 4hours for my Coke. The next time I buy pop in Indiana will be when I move outta Michigan.  (Dec 30, 2008 | post #41)
