While I honestly don't know who's telling the truth here in y'alls' dispute (plural possessive 'you'), nonethelss, Peter, I believe it's a worthy cause & endeavor, but I simply don't have the time right now -- perhaps later? Now, petitions (especially ONLINE petitons) are a nonsense waste of time, as it's next to impossible to verify the identity of the signators... and that is even true with www.wh.gov/jU8 --my petiton, but as my petition is of a type that canappear on the Whitehouse website, it may be the exception to the rule, and worthy of 5 minutes of your time to register an account & sign. Eh? (Dec 17, 2011 | post #63)
Well, I'm conservative, Ronald, and I am NOT a big fan of usin tax-payer dollars for ANYTHING, but even worse than grants are loans... See e.g., the resource link at point #4 of www.wh.gov/jU8 and sign the petition if you don't object. That way, my petition stays online at the Whitehouse website even after it expires and continues to advocate for a return to the methods about which you elucidate. Is my request for you to review & sign my petition (and also to pass along to friends) in any way unreasonable? (Dec 15, 2011 | post #74)
Did you sign? I don't think that it's limited to Americans... (see the 'edit --> profile' function in the Whitehouse.gov website at www.wh.gov/jU8 to verify that it WILL allow other countries to register a petition-signing account. If you *do* choose to sign, please note that you have to click on th elink in your email to 'activate' the account, and you can only log in once that way, but it does have a password recovery function, and once signed in, you can vote on my petition, if you deem it worthy... Lastly, I'd change my password in Edit-->Profile as soon as you sign the thing, so you will easily be able to log in & sign future petitions, should you so choose... Isn't that great? American Democracy even allows CANADIANS such as yourself to participate! (We're a bad country, but there's still a *little* bit of democracy left. LOL (Dec 15, 2011 | post #61)
I AM press, and thus need an image to help people remember... that's the industry standard. Yes, both are alive: My mother, who owns her own house but can't live in it (dilapidated, hoarding pack-rat crowded, etc.), has moved in with my and dad... now that you ask. Now, I have a question for *you*: Is my petition at http://wh.gov/jU8 a reasonable one. Secondly, do I make the case in my YouTube video notes, that an online petition might actually work? (you know, they usually don't.) (Dec 15, 2011 | post #71)
I don't know about the evidence or testimony in the controversy about whether certain people are offering bad medical advice to treat or cure of rosacea, the chronic 'rednesss' skin condition involving inflammation of the cheeks, nose, chin, forehead, or eyelids. I simply don't have time to chase rabbit trails, and I *barely* can screen my *own* doctors for veracity... LOL. But my petition, http://wh.gov/jU8 only takes like 5 minutes to register and sign, and yet I don't recall any of your signatures on it? Who is righteous here... (Dec 15, 2011 | post #59)
Thank you, Mark. Your words of encouragement are much appreciated. Here is a website of a fellow-Texan I think you'll enjoy: http://AngelsOnAss igmnent.org and, here, if you chose to sign and have not already, is my petition again: http://wh.gov/jU8 If you have friends that want to sign but can't get on the Internet or don't know how, you can sign for them, if need be by registering a new account for them with another email address, but only do this if someone wants to sign and can't.... as much as I'm tempted... signing for cats, dogs, or dead people is taboo, forbidden, and verboten, not to mention a bad, "uncool, " and prohibited idea... :) Here is a shortcut to the link for said petition if you forget it... www.GordonWatts.co m or www.GordonWayneWat ts.com (Dec 14, 2011 | post #54)
I don't know who you think I am, but I'm GORDON WAYNE WATTS - a REAL person... any my link (2whichU responded) is as follows: http://www.youtube .com/watch?v=Najlu 9B7w_Q NOT crazy - - click and sign. And ask friends to sign. If you think I'm just blowing smoke about a petition being able to actually work (sinve most online petitions are rightly IGNORED) see the vid comments in my Youtube vid by clicking 'more' and verying my claim the thing will be permanant on The Whitehouse with only 59 more signatures if I get tnem by Dec.21. (Dec 13, 2011 | post #67)
Or, better yet, ... http://www.youtube .com/watch?v=Najlu 9B7w_Q (Dec 12, 2011 | post #63)
That 'cost' that you mention used to be a LOT lower in the 1950's when the salaries of the professors, coaches, and university presidents was not so obscenely high. And, yes!, their salaries have risen from inflation, but they have actually risen MUCH faster than inflation. So, if the model I proposed at http://wh.gov/jU8 were enacted, the price of tuition would drop like a rock, and, since the 1950's universities were top in the world, we know that modern colleges could also "make do" without their "6 figure" salaries, and thus the "token" payment of tuition would not have to be so large as it is now: The "expensive Government universities" which were "borne by the hard working taxpaying minority" were actually NOT that expensive: Things worked back then, and the economy was much better, so your apparent opposition to my proposals in http://wh.gov/jU8 are without merit. Please sign & ask your friends to sign. (Dec 12, 2011 | post #55)
Sally, public education's problems are caused by the same root problems as those of higher ed, which is why I ask you to sign my petition: http://wh.gov/jU8 -- Registration is free, but required -- no personal information is posted on the petition (go look-see to verify). (Dec 12, 2011 | post #54)
When did I say some pop movie star inspired me! (But, nonetheless, lack of inspiration as it is: I am naive all the same, just like Mr. Gump -for better or worse.) LOL -- Also, having been born in 1966, I'm FAR older than 20You're right about the apathy factor, but why don't you "be different" and sign my petition: http://wh.gov/jU8 -- If some stupid petitions can get their 150 signatures needed to remain online forever in searchable Whitehouse website archives (and I'm over halfway there), why not this one? = Sign & ask your friends to sign. It won't hurt --and it may help. (Dec 12, 2011 | post #53)
addressing just this... Yes, that's usually the case, but it does not necessarily have to be: Even if it's for everyone, so long as they all work hard and learn something, it will work out just as well. :) I'm naive like Forest Gump - I believe it can be done. (Dec 11, 2011 | post #49)
After I have spent several hundred dollars for a press release and then handbill flyers (which I passed out at both UCF and USF, 2 local colleges in Central Fla where I live), and then to run into much apathy and some smart or snide remarks by others, I am glad to see some thoughtful consideration, even if you might not see eye-to-eye on the nuances of all points here. Thank you, LBer, for being a thougtful listener here... (I almost feared more moronic disbelief to the problem or whatever other apathetic carelessness that might slow the hands of progress here.) But anythow to address your points... Yes, college is pushed too much, I think, but sadly, jobs anymore don't want to even talk to you if you don't have that 'sheepskin.' (colloquial nickname for the degree, for those that don't know street slang :) :) So, yes, since i think that jobs place too much emphasis on a college education, then I would agree it is pushed too much by parents, teachers, elders, etc., -- but the cold fact remains: It I still useful to educate --and since jobs require education (rightly or wrongly), then it is a must -more or less. So, since this model worked in thr 50's, I push it now: http://wh.gov/jU8 CAVEAT 1 -- the Whitehouse website is slow or down on occasions --plz be patient. CAVEAT 2 -- yes, I admit there were fewer students in the 50's and thus the grant money could go aronud more easily, but that is a minor factor here... the amount that the influx of loan fundings bid up the market was HUGE by comparison -- and ye,s while the kids anymore are lazy, they can change -- with discipline and God's help. So, please consider signing my petition above --but if you doubt my claims that it will get permanant archive status as I claim --and continue to fight for students, see e.g., www.GordonWatts.co m or www.GordonWayneWat ts.com for proof of that. : - ) (Dec 11, 2011 | post #48)
being lazy instead of speaking up (read: http://wh.gov/jU8 ) as consequences. GW (Dec 10, 2011 | post #46)
You overlook 2 things... 1) I'm not 100% Native American -- I am actually mostly "white," and if (as you seem to imply) the Whites have more political pull, then I've got the mojo, and your racist comment does not apply to me. 2) You obviously did NOT look at the *very* *short* front page news item on my The Register aka my online paper or blog, www.GordonWatts.co m or www.GordonWayneWat ts.com There, I list proof that my petition, if it gets just 72 more signatures by the 21st (almost 2 weeks away), will remain online at The Whitehouse's official website basically FOREVER. Didn't know that did'ja? So, whether my petition gets an "official response" or not, it WILL (if it get in under the wire) attract a LOT of attention to poor blokes like you who might get screwed by some rich banker ...didn't know that either, did you? So, your complaining and moaning & groaning (same thing happened in several other Communist, Nazi, Socialist, etc. countries to allow *their* people to get crushes by a small minority oppressive Govt), is not accomplishing anything. Why don't you use your energy, instead, and be like those other 78 people and sign the petition. With only 72 more, it will get to 150, and the n our "voice" will be heard --"our" meaning the American citizens who are getting crushed --but, if OTOH, you're a rich University President making millions on the backs of poor college students, then perhaps you might *not* want to sign http://wh.gov/jU8 <-- But there's the petition, if you wish to do something. If you have a better solution, let's hear it --and I'll jump to your tune --otherwise, I need help with *this* solution. Gordon Wayne Watts LAKELAND, Fla. (Dec 10, 2011 | post #45)
