Con-way Cut to Hold at Stifel Nicolaus

I'm a hard worker kind of guy with my vet grandfather and fathers work ethic (both were union) but would say that the union and union workers are not what they used to me. as I've said, I earned and worked for what I have gotten, was not given anything by the union or the company. the company does not force me to stay, they do not force me to do anything I feel is unsafe. and if I dont like something I'm free to leave and go some where else. so no, I have not sold my "soul & dignity" my company takes care of me and I thank them by doing a good job, although it doesn't matter whether I worked for the union or work for a non union. my work ethic has always been the same. as I said, I have no faith or trust in the union. been there done that, burned the t shirt.  (Oct 5, 2015 | post #11)

driver attitudes, I've had more then one customer complain of damages with union companies, the union company I worked for a driver, dock worker and guard were fired after two trailers of sony (our number 1 account for that company) were stolen. pulled right out of the yard. thefts and damages were a huge problem, 8 of our drivers (out of 30) were banned from a few of our stops because of bad attitudes. these days I had customers tell me about yrc and ups frt drivers bad attitudes, slowness and lack of caring. have had more then one resi almost beg me to help them put their create in their garage and be very grateful because when yrc or ups delivered. they dropped the 400lbs create on the curb and told the customer, "not my job." I'm not reaching, I've worked with union drivers and I've worked in the LTL industry for 27yrs around union, non union drivers and with customers of these LTL companies. we all have to sit on the dock and wait, its part of the LTL business and union drivers (like non union) get paid by the hour, so there is not need for them to get upset. and with them being union, their managers cant hammer them as much as unions claim non union companies hammer and force their drivers. I think I posted two things on the usps, but that was it. we will see what happens with conway, I talked to one of theirs today, he said they are holding off doing anything for a year, but is confident that this is a good thing. and frankly its their job and their choice. it effects them and not you. they have voted, instead of insulting them, should be grateful the at least voted.  (Oct 5, 2015 | post #10)

conway got a raise to little over $27.20 last yr. yes you are correct, I don't like unions, nor many union drivers. my father was in a union for 18yrs and when he started losing his eyesight and couldn't drive anymore, the union said they couldn't help him. the company liked that he was a hard worker so they helped him get into the office. unfortunately when get went into the office, that made him the enemy and he had to leave the union. I worked for a union company for 6yrs. the company hired me, not the union, when I needed to get hours (because 6hours a week was not enough) the union said they couldn't help me (because I was on the bottom of the list) and they had no suggestions for me, other then to stick it out. however they company liked my hard work ethic and had a suggestion, only I would have to move 70 miles away. so I did. when I was falsely accused of stealing, the union rep didn't show up and I had to tell my side of the story to the manager, with no one at my side. I was suspended for 3days no pay while they investigated it. I was found innocent, but didn't get my pay and again they union did not help me with that. there was two other guys that were accused and they were fired, the union showed up for them and even tried to get their jobs back, but there was too much evidence against them. was dock 1am crew for a yr and a half, I wanted to get off and on the road, the union could not help me, but the company was more then willing to help me, but again I had to transfer 28 miles to a new terminal. the company was opening a new one and told us they would start from the top of the list and ask who wants to go, then go to the bottom and force those to go. so I went to the manager and asked to go as long as I got days and a chance to drive. within three months I was doing small one runs to the ports, three months after that I was I was driving full time. when the company closed, the union promised to help us look, I don't know if the help the others, but once again they told me they couldn't help me, but if I send them $5 they would send me a card so if I got with another union, I wouldn't have to pay union initiation fees. the union didn't do anything for me, I worked and did everything to what I wanted from the company, the only time the union was quick to do anything with me was when I hired on and they showed up to have me sign to take fees and dues out. so I have no faith in the union and unions haven't done very well in the LTL industry.  (Oct 5, 2015 | post #9)

ups and fedex are not freight movers like conway. they are package movers. however ups and fedex do have freight divisions, called ups freight and fedex freight. neither one of these use planes, both are LTL companies like conway and all their frieght is all moved on the ground. yrc has been in trouble since 2008 and almost closed. they were the biggest and # 1 LTL in the country, but after 2008 and even buying and merging with roadway (another union LTL) they closed a lot of over lapping terminals, laid off a lot of union workers. they are not the biggest. yrc has about 11.456 drivers, 8289 trucks.they are also over on the csa vehicle maintenance. with a 17.8 vehicle, 0.8 driver and 4.5 HM OOS. ups freight has about 10.013 drivers and 6541 trucks.with 13.2 vehicle, 1.8 driver and 3.3 HM fedex freight has about 18.739 drivers, 15.708 trucks with 12.4 v, 0.8 D and 3.5 hm abf has 6897 drivers, 4150 trucks with 12.1 v, 1.1 d and 2.6 hm. conway 14.103 drivers, 8803 trucks with 8.9 v, 1.2 d, and 5.5 hm yrc union drivers took 3 pay cuts, abf tired to cut pay, but failed. fedex frt took no pay cuts and got a pay raise every year except 2008, conway got a big raise last year and not sure about ups frt. however ups is not putting hardly any money into ups frt. they just are not growing. conway and fedex frt are bigger then the union carriers. yes I've heard about damages with conway and the other companies as well. I've had many customers that will not ship with yrc, abf and ups because of too many damages, lost or stolen freight and bad claims department. Ive had other customers say they will not ship with yrc and ups frt because of bad drivers attitudes. the union LTLs are in trouble and not doing as well. I think abf is doing a little better the yrc and ups frt. I am interested into seeing what now happens with conway, time will till.  (Oct 1, 2015 | post #5)

I worked for a union ltl company at one time back in the late 80's, closed their doors and not a thing the union could do, just like the union couldnt have done anything here also. if you want another example, Consolidated Freightways. drivers had a 3day weekend holiday only to come back on Tuesday to find the gates locked and the company closed, not a darn thing the union could do. fyi, I'm not saying the union is responsible, just saying there is nothing they can do, the union does not create jobs, they do not bring money into a company.  (Sep 24, 2015 | post #2)

"The Safety Team"

all I can say about them is I used to follow them on youtube, they had two channels, one of bad truck driver vids and one of bad car drivers. they left youtube because they said they were getting attacked by truckers on their truck channel claiming there was not truck violations. they contacted me once and offered help in setting up a better camera system on my truck, I had to unfortunately deny their help since any system on the truck would have to be portable, or easily removed every day. they left it to this new site, saying they were able to control who commented on their channel better. I have since then become disappointed with them for only focusing on the trucker part and getting rid of the car part, so I have not really kept up with their new channel. I believe that all vehicles on the road must be safe, while as truck drivers we are the professionals and car drivers are not, they still had to take a test to receive their license. so they need to be held to some kind of standard and not the idea that some professional drivers have that its ok they drive like fools, because they are not professional drivers.  (Dec 27, 2014 | post #3)

Man Filming Speeding Trucks in Chattanooga

it can be reckless if you are driving and zooming in onto the numbers of the truck, or at the trucks mirrors trying to see the driver, then zooming on to the gps to show time, date, speed, location etc. while holding up traffic in the fast lane, causing some to move to slower lanes and then cut trucks, or even getting himself cut off as other traffic tries to go around him. I'm all for getting reckless vehicles off the road, and have even filmed a few my self. but you got to keep your eyes on the road, and not trying to look at your cameras view to make sure you're zooming in and its focusing correctly, getting the numbers right.  (Jul 15, 2014 | post #23)

you should have checked out volpe's website before it went down, it stated that truckers were responsible for all accidents unless they can prove the did nothing to cause the accident and did what they can to prevent one. in short, he is convicting drivers before they've had a trial. as for were the pickup came from, simple, volpe most of the time was taping trucks while driving in the fast lane, so he was holding up traffic, in one of his vids he zooms in on the drivers truck and you can see the cars backing up behind volpes car. so some vehicles, like the pickup would move to the slow lanes to get around him and the trucks, then cut in front of the truck and then to the fast lane and go on down the HWY. then volpe would claim the truck was tailgating, watch that vid very carefully you can see the pickup in the slow lane then cut in front of the truck. concerned Unamerican also stated that, including saying all truckers (not some) all truckers were on drugs, and all truckers are reckless, and even though some of us showed him facts from FMCSA, FARS, T.A.C.T's stories, he didnt even look himself, he just kept up with the all truckers are reckless and on drugs. I'm only a local driver, so I'm only in my truck 8-10hrs a day, the rest of the time I'm in my car. and the issues I've had with some truckers I can count on my fingers and toes in the last 26 yrs. however I need my fingers and toes to count how many issues I've had with cars every day. as for the gun. one thing that has bothered me, is at one time volpe said he was taping the driver and the driver noticed him, then tried to run him off the road. so if he was videoing the driver, were is that vid, why would he turn off the vid if he did. why is there no vid of this happening, why is there no vid of the trucker before he tried to run volpe off the road, I mean if anyone (even a trucker) tried to do that to me, I would get them on vid. 2nd if I was in my car, no truck could get close to me. I think he is fool of it, I think there was road rage on both parts, but volpe started it, trying to get the trucker going so he could get the vid he was looking for, but things got out of hand, and volpe took it too far. thats why he was charged and found guilty.  (Jun 6, 2014 | post #394)

You’re right That’s unfortunate that it will take a body in a bag for the courts to see. But the thought that he and others like him have, that truckers are unsafe, drugged up, tired, alcoholics ETC ETC. is all in their heads and lies, for we have facts (something that concerned un-American could never produce) that those are lies. However… he is still a convicted criminal, he is still a convicted attempted murder and that’s a fact, something that he will have following him for the rest of his life. He is more dangerous then his faults claims about truckers.  (May 3, 2014 | post #388)

He may have got out, but the charges are still there, but the convictions still stand, he is still an attempted murder, right?  (Apr 30, 2014 | post #386)

I guess we can look forward to this coward to continue his terror and harassment of honest hard working American Truckers who are not perfect, just trying to feed their families, and keep moving the country. BTW I placed 3rd in the California southern regional Truck driving Championship. Got to Calif. State in May, if I can take 1st I than go to Nationals. So much for me being an unsafe drugged up, alcoholic trucker, right concerned UN-American. Now that he’s loose to terrorize the road, we might be back on here, to gloat.  (Apr 28, 2014 | post #385)

Actually, he’s in a lot of trouble, he pulled a gun and shot at a trucker (thankfully missing) he has been found guilty of 3 or 4 charges, but is up for retrial, not sure why, Long Haul Driver knows more than I do.  (Feb 4, 2014 | post #380)
