Midlothian Village Penalty Bill, Who's at fault the Post ...

Yes the village is waiving because a lot of people have come in from the same small area of town. And we have trouble with our carrier too. We get mail from two blocks over sometimes and sometimes have a neighbor come stick our mail in our box or give it to us if we happen to be out. But we don't seem to have just one weekday and one weekend carrier. We seem to have a revolving door.  (Jan 29, 2014 | post #12)

Metra Accident

Article says (at time published) he was on the tracks but they didn't know for sure if the "source" was right that he tried to by pass the gates. Seems probable. Never understood that. http://www.chicago tribune.com/news/l ocal/breaking/chi- metra-train-on-mov e-again-after-hitt ing-van-20140114,0 ,4423656.story A minivan that sources said went around downed crossing gates Tuesday morning in south suburban Robbins was struck by a Rock Island Line Metra train, critically injuring a man behind the wheel of the minivan. Metra spokesman Tom Miller said outbound Train No. 509, scheduled to arrive in Joliet at 11:51 a.m., hit a van at 139th Street in Robbins about 11:20 a.m. A man approximately in his 40s was critically injured and trapped inside the minivan when the train, carrying about 30 passengers, hit him, said Robbins Fire Dept. Chief Donald Rush. According to a source, the driver of the van went around lowered crossing gates but Rush could not confirm that. Rush said it appeared the motorist was trying to go westbound on 139th Street when the crash happened. Crews responded at 11:20 a.m., extricated him from the minivan, and took him to Metro South Medical Center in Blue Island in critical condition with internal injuries, Rush said. The smashed minivan, stuck on the tracks, had to be hoisted away by a large forklift brought in by Metra. Rush did not know why the motorist was on the tracks at that crossing, which is equipped with gates and bells, and is about 500 feet from the Robbins station. “All the signals were intact and working,’’ Rush said. Firefighters left the scene about 12:20 p.m. and Rush said no one else was in the minivan. As of 12:25 p.m. the train was on the move again after being delayed about an hour, Miller said.  (Jan 14, 2014 | post #4)

So why do we still have 3 blocks of empty pavement?

I think she's trying to get the final property at the corner to make it more appealing to develop. Midlo owns part of the corridor over there but not the old Sunrise property. Don't know the specifics or how far along it is .. Just know that could make the property more enticing. Hopin' some good news comes out soon. Anyone else heard about it lately?  (Jan 12, 2014 | post #32)

Put a fork in midlo

It's amusing to me when people like you keep saying Midlothian (or any town for that matter) is dead/done/dying. Even towns like Flint, MI are still trying to keep it alive even after catastrophic loss of jobs, infrastructure and significant surges in crime. If the spirit of the people is not broken, there's still a chance to mount a comeback. You must be a glass half empty person or just someone that likes to insult people....Hey, maybe both. Improvement takes time, period.  (Jan 11, 2014 | post #2)

Midlo streets

Shaking my head at some of these replies here. Seems anyone that sticks up for PW or the mayor is being called a bully or told they have their facts wrong, but I think the facts are clear. Plows were out for well over the claimed 8 hours, and anyone that is calling the village is getting the same answers. So we have potentially one or more disgruntled employees or contacts of theirs trying to start something and pro-mayor / pro-public works people defending them. Who cares? The streets are getting plowed aren't they? Unless you've got a plow and are going to help out, might be time to can it. Oh I heard about a main break too. Don't know where it was though.  (Jan 5, 2014 | post #81)

Midlo streets

Anyone else see the village website tonight? " Dear Midlothian Residents, I appreciate all of your patience and understanding while the Public Works Department has worked diligently and steadfast to clear our streets and keep us all safe. This amount of snow in the short period in which it was received has been very trying on all of us. I personally want to commend the effort and hard work of our terrific Public Works team, along with our Fire Department and Police Department for the many rough hours they have endured and will continue to endure as the clean up continues. The continuing practice of putting the residents first is still the most important factor to myself and this administration. With bitter cold temperatures approaching, please be aware that the Village of Midlothian and the Midlothian Park District will have warming centers open beginning on Sunday. Midlo streets

I just drove home and saw several plows. My street has been plowed more than once too so I know they are making the big circuit through town and coming back. I think some of you forget that they have a set number of trucks that go through their set area and then come back The snow came down pretty fast so by the time they came back you might have had a lot again...doesnt mean they didnt plow. Give them a break  (Jan 2, 2014 | post #33)

Heard the same thing about the grocery stores. Sounds like the guy was just tossing names out there to sound like he was working when he wasn't. If he's going to all those meetings maybe he's just continuously networking for when each "job" finally catches on and gets rid of him.  (Dec 30, 2013 | post #28)
