The "people" that did this should pay for it, NOT the town. The town is being sued , Not the people. Seems like the lawyer picked on the only group that might have money to pay for anything. If this should ever get paid off, (by the towns insurance company or the town) it will open a can of worms that will cost all of the towns more money than the insurance companies or taxpayer will ever be able to pay.  (Friday Dec 11 | post #26)

Attorney Steven Key probably started the whole thing. I doubt the kid was going to do anything until he was contacted by the lawyer. Just another case of the lawyer trying to make a fast dollar. He probably figures that the insurance company will settle for $100,000. and he will get 75% of that for just using his letterhead on the notice. I doubt the "lawyer" has spent 5 minutes working on this. It's a scam pulled all the time. Threaten large lawsuit and settle for whatever you can get. Insurance company happy to payoff smaller amount because they are scared to go to court. This is high on the list of stupid lawsuits list in my book. Now they are claiming the cops didn't do enough to protect the citizen. Damned if you do, Damned if you don't.  (Friday Dec 11 | post #10)

I guess this blows the theory about calling the cops for suspicious activity in the area. They can't do anything about it, regardless of what is going on. People like this better watch out. The main thing that bothers me about this is that the judge is the same one that lets most all drug dealers out on PR. I guess this might be his way to try to show that he is enforcing the law. From the sounds of it, I guess Mantello may have gone over the top that night, and then filed false reports. Not a good thing for a cop to do, but under the circumstances understandable. If a cop is bad then he needs to be punished. Criminals have more rights than the cops do. For all of you that love the fact that a cop got busted, please explain how you feel about the 4 cops in Lakewood WA that just got killed for doing NOTHING !!!! Do you feel good about that too ? They all have a thankless job. With them its damned if they do and damned if they don't. Its a no win job.  (Tuesday Dec 1 | post #36)

"Trombley initially was charged with assault and disorderly conduct. Those charges were eventually dropped after a Massachusetts State Police investigation led to Mantello's indictment." Why were the charges dropped? Just because Mantello was charged doesn't mean that Trombley was not guilty of his charges too. He also admitted that he didn't remember what happened that night, so who brought the charges against the cop? Probably some lawyer that's looking to make a name for himself or saw a chance at making a quick dollar off the taxpayers to defend this piece of crap. You are right. I never would put myself in that situation and I do not worry about mistaken identity. I have a better chance of hitting the lottery than that happening. The "victim" said he didn't remember the night due to being so ****** up. So who brought the charges? His lawyer? The cop is in a no win situation. If he gets off all of you will say the courts are protecting one of their own, if he is convicted then he is screwed for life. Like I said before I would not have his job for 5 times what they get paid. They have to baby even the meanest, nastiest people. No wonder so many of them get killed on the job. How about those cops. Do they deserve to be killed just for doing their job? Being a cop is a lousy job. Very few people appreciate them trying to keep us safe.  (Tuesday Nov 24 | post #72)

He may be guilty, but I have a tendency to doubt it. He probably will be found guilty, but I doubt the whole truth will ever be known. People don't become cops to beat people up, especially in a small town. The odds are better if you are a criminal. For all you people the automatically cry its a bad cop, why don't you sign up with the police department. I wouldn't have that job for 5 times the money they get paid. I would shoot the 1st SOB that ran from me when I told them to stop. When I grew up we were taught to respect the law. Today people just laugh at the law. I agree that there are some bad cops out there, but it's not all of them. You don't know all the facts before the camera started filming. Pittsfield Assault makes third charge in five months

He should have been put away after the 2nd time if not the first. More trash from the wonderful town of Pittsfield. He will have to kill someone before they even think about giving him time. Even then the odds are in his favor. The courts make me sick.  (Nov 18, 2009 | post #23)
