Man Attacked Outside Hickory Home While Helping Friend

That's four cars set on fire in a week. I wonder if this is gang related? Not that the victims are in gangs, but if gangs are making some statement, or trying to move into an area. There's no sense in burning cars that I can see.  (Jan 23, 2008 | post #1)

Water tower shot; may lose hundreds of thousands of gallons

I'm guessing it was Al Queida* trying to sow dissent among the American people...just kidding Whoever it was should be prosecuted and forced to read the newspaper everyday for the rest of their lives, for I'm guessing they didn't know there was a drought. Probably kids. *Don't know the spelling, but I dare not look up the proper spelling on google lest NIS comes after me.  (Jan 3, 2008 | post #50)

Hickory teen dies in crash after chase

It's sad all around. We all make dumb choices. I wonder about the number of automobile deaths in this country. I know automobiles kill a lot of people every year, but teenagers are especially susceptible to this threat just because it does take so much clear thinking, sound judgment, and self-control, all of which require patience and training to develop, though some of us take longer than others. I'm not trying to excuse the young man. It just seems like automobile's in general are very dangerous things that we treat too lightly. A dumb choice normally has limited, minor penalties, but in a car, it costs a lot more whether it's your life, another's life, or the ability to walk.  (Dec 14, 2007 | post #10)

Part of a National Trend: Downtown's warehouse revival

A few thoughts on downtown warehouse development: I think it would be fantastic to turn the derelict warehouses into condos, galleries, and other fantastic things for the community. But this article makes it sound like rich people will live in these gigantic buildings, which does help with the overall attractiveness of the area and is certainly their right, but it will NOT bring young professionals to the downtown region. And until you have those young professionals (As Charlotte, Asheville, even Morganton, have figured out.), downtown will remain a boutique strip for the few who care about and can afford such posh things.  (Dec 6, 2007 | post #1)

car repair

I go to Cary's Auto in Granite Falls, and they've been terrific. Not the cheapest, but good and honest.  (Dec 6, 2007 | post #2)

Latest Developments: Cafe Gouda closes location on Tate B...

It's too bad it has closed. Tate Blvd. could use some dining. Still it's not surprising. I though Gouda was stretching itself a bit thin with two stores and two embedded shops. Eighteen new Starbucks in town probably didn't help.  (Dec 6, 2007 | post #1)

Healing our health care system

I wish I could've made it. My wife is self-employed, and health care is a serious concern of ours.  (Nov 18, 2007 | post #6)
