So I think I'll give up right here in arguing with CaptainWrong. It would be a waste of time, because what he/she only says will anger me to the point I might break my computer screen. I'll be the man and "walk" away from this. (Oct 16, 2011 | post #2667)
Isn't this hypocritical? Sounds like you're accepting of lesbians, but two men together is an atrocity. (Oct 14, 2011 | post #2511)
It is because someone saw it as wrong. Doesn't mean we have to accept that as true. The Romans hadn't cared until people of Christianity came into their world. It wasn't something cultural to them and to the Romans on the other hand- they didn't care, but the view was warped because a Christian thought, "whoa! this is strange and DIFFERENT so I hate it therefore other Christians have to hate it" It's interpretation, my dear. Cause that's what you're doing and that's what I'm doing. It goes a long way then comes back around full circle. (Oct 14, 2011 | post #79)
People never cease to amaze me. (Mar 2, 2011 | post #9)
If only I could truly believe that we can all get along. (Mar 2, 2011 | post #67)
First of all Twilight shouldn't be compared to Lord of the Rings. That's blasphemy. Sorry, but it is, no matter how much you ask for us to respect you as a Twilight fan. Granted, I do not disrespect you nor do I try to dissuade you of what you think...I think that the point that is trying to be made by fellow haters is that..DON'T EXPECT HATERS TO KEEP THEIR MOUTH SHUT. Just because you don't make a "hate" thread about Lord of the Rings doesn't mean that we shouldn't go on about how we dislike Twilight. Yes, this sounds quite petty, but I have to say at least substantial claims and reasoning is made as to why we dislike Twilight. It's not incoherent, statements of "hate".. .it's just pure loathing for something that could have been written much better than it was. You see, that's where my sentiments lie. If Stephanie Myers can get published then that leaves my hopes pretty high when I get to sending my books to companies to be published. Yup, I have no doubt that if she can get published then so can I. (Mar 2, 2011 | post #102)
I think all the points have been made and there is nothing further that can be said. Well, I can say if this is what Twilight does to people then that is just plain sad. Even more sad then it being soft porn for girls. Yes, I cannot wait for this "fad" to up and die. (Mar 1, 2011 | post #98)
Why do people freak out about something they cannot change? Homosexuality and anything to do with it will be in the future and you cannot stop that. Why not change something you might actually have the chance to change rather than complain about something that cannot be changed? (Mar 1, 2011 | post #65)
I haven't said once that she cannot stand up for what she believes in. I actually welcome it. She just needs to be prepared for responses from people who agree or disagree. And as for grammar mistakes, they get annoying, but it's the internet so I've learned to ignore them. Although, I do have to say that I am not too happy that I am arguing with 14 year old girls. Makes me feel old and I'm only 20. (Feb 24, 2011 | post #83)
You've lost me at calling this idea ORIGINAL and DIFFERENT. Have you read anything else? Especially books concerning vampires? There is always the tale of forbidden love when it comes to vampires or fantasy stories. There is more reasons to dislike Twilight besides the content in comparison to Harry Potter. The writing of the books is fairly, well, not surprising at all. It was quite simple. If Stephanie Myers can get something published then I have no fear concerning my writing career. But because of her for those people that are genuinely passionate about VAMPIRES/WOLVES and what not find it very hard to write what they want without it being too similar to the story that she has written. By the way it's not a SAGA, a SAGA is worth honorable mention such as STAR WARS and STAR TREK. This is just a SERIES that I will be glad to see die. (Feb 24, 2011 | post #82)
Why are you so worried about other people's sex life when it shouldn't be interfering in your life? I mean, why make gays sex life (which is apparently the one thing on people's minds aside from restricting them marriage) public? It's not bothering anyone what they do behind closed doors, why do you care so much? I don't care about your sex life, nor theirs. Just let them be who they are. And you cannot compare a HUMAN loving a HUMAN to that of a pedophile and their sick and twisted ways of justifying "loving" children, nor can it be compared to bestiality and what those people do with animals. That's wrong. A HUMAN loving another HUMAN (no matter the sex) actually is quite normal. Go ahead, I'll wait for you to call me chemically imbalanced. (Feb 24, 2011 | post #59)
The point I am trying to make is that people criticize things in positive and negative ways all the time. Yes, we might care about it because of our complaining, but we care about it the fact that it has been a completely and totally wasteful obsession for many, many, many people of many ages. The books aren't even that good. And if I were in a thread about Harry Potter, I would go on wasting my time with good criticisms for that series. Here, I suppose I'll try to make civil conversation and make my points about something I think that has scary power over the minds of pre-teens, young adults, and even adults. It's pretty damn scary to think about the control Twilight has over society and the attitudes of obsessive people...it's just plain frightening. And yes, I'll waste my time in hopes that once the movies are finished with that this craze will up and die. (Feb 16, 2011 | post #57)
Actually the criticizing doesn't waste our time. Rather it only strengthens our ability to communicate (hopefully with civil people) and to be open-minded to things we might not necessarily involve ourselves with. If we're wasting our time criticizing (which everyone does in this world) then you've just wasted your time by telling us not to criticize. (Feb 15, 2011 | post #55)
I actually watched this YouTube video about American Literature (narrated by a British voice, but I think that was just some technical stuff the video maker was doing)...anyway, at the very end one of the American authors mentioned was Stephanie Myers. Mind you she was being mentioned amongst people like Michael Crichton and Stephen King...I was certainly perturbed by that and so was the professor. She told us she had no clue why Myers was mentioned and thankfully class we won't be reading her. This certain professor of mine won't even read Myers in her Child's Lit class and they read such things like Harry Potter for the adolescent portion of the class. It makes me laugh. Let's just hope that soon enough this craze gets over and done with. I'll hope/assume that it just may end with the movies coming to a close. (Jan 16, 2011 | post #52)
Well, I feel deeply sorry for you and assume you got through it...Meyer's writing if ever it was used in schools would be the day I die inside. That is only furthering the butchering of the English language if you ask me. I still wonder why the movies entertain, though. Because I'll be honest the movies are better than the books and if that isn't an insult then I don't know what is. (Dec 22, 2010 | post #40)
