Sorry, sorry, sorry. As I told Miken, I didn't show up the second day. I thought about you coming up and thought that maybe you would come by and leave the beads with my friend at the booth. We'll just have to make other arrangements....bu t, remember, I'm still not driving. I still don't have enough stuff to do another Farmer's market yet. I may try to do it again. email me through topix and maybe we can arrange something that way.  (Jun 28, 2011 | post #13913)

I was there, honest. They had tents and booths scattered all over the grounds. I'm not sure where our booth was, but I got the impression that it was way in the back. The second day, I wasn't there. It was like camping out and I really hate camping out. It was hot and I really didn't have that much left to sell, so I just stayed home the 2nd day. I hope to be back in Alameda Park on Saturday mornings and Wednesday afternoons if I build my inventory back up. Yes, I suppose I'm better. My balance is shot and when I turn my body or even just my head, I lose balance easily. People tell me it will get better, but somehow, I really don't think so. The doctors said my vision would return after my 1st stroke, and it never did. I still have no peripherial vision in my right eye. So, I feel the same way about my balance. If it didn't return in the first 3 months, it's not going to. On the other hand, I'm alive, productive, and verbal as all hell, so I'm a lucky girl. Sorry I missed you. And sorry about your broken hindparts.  (Jun 28, 2011 | post #13912)

Superintendents wary of grades for schools

They can hand out all the grades they want. It won't make a difference. It's not like schools haven't had "failing grades" in the past and continued to remain open.  (Jun 28, 2011 | post #7)

Wallow Fire 51 percent contained

I'm glad to hear that it's being contained. Those firefighters are really something else. I've thought a lot about the hot weather, hot wind, and those guys fighting the hot fire. I'm real appreciative and not sure how they do it. Thank, firefighters!  (Jun 20, 2011 | post #2)

HOPE XANDER GETS BETTER! I worry about how much one person can go through. There is absolutely no where a person can go and not see people texting, working on a cell phone/computer, or whatever anymore. There will come a time when people will sit down and instead of talking to each other, they will be texting or talking to someone else on their smart phones. It's getting to where I can't even understand the electronics and computer commercials. I have no clue what they're talking about. Now, there are small computers (are they still called "computers? ") that people use to watch tv. I'm glad I'm not teaching anymore. If I was, I'd have to suggest that teachers have classes shown on little hand-held devices....hey - then there'd be no reason to have schools. All the students could just tune in to their smart phone, get classes from a teacher who is also at home, and we'd all be happy. I have a somewhat modern macintosh that I'm still learning to use. It's not that I'm afraid of technology, it's just that there's so damn much of it instead of human interaction anymore. That really worries me. I saw on some tv show that employers are being coached as to the best way to hire the upcoming generation. They are the ones who grew up when everyone was getting a reward and they are coddled by parents who actually call their child's employer to complain about how their child is treated. I saw this, for real. This generation is being catered to by employers because they're so technologically savvy, if they're not happy, they just go job-hopping. This really blew my mind. It's official ~ I am now old and uninformed.  (Jun 17, 2011 | post #13884)

Does anyone else think the goodwill is way overpriced in ...

www.goodwill.com has a craigslist type of website. you can buy stuff there from all over the country for a resonable price, but they kill you on shipping charges.  (Jun 13, 2011 | post #66)

Hi everyone. I'm still a little wobbly, but I'm here and kicking. Barb ~ the people cleaning up trash need to come up my street. I just picked up several cups and cartons on my walk with the dog. I think the trash men leak a little when they go down the road. I noticed several trash bags left full on the side of the road for pick-up not too long ago.  (Jun 11, 2011 | post #13871)

State lays off 44 workers

When you work for the government and belong to a union nothing much really seems to happen. I belonged to a union when I was laid off due to lack of funding. The first thing I did was call the union. They said there was nothing they could do about it. Four years of monthly dues and that's what I get? I've never joined a union again, although some seem to be organized absolutely for its members. And I never say I'm against unions. The thing about working for any government entity is budgets have fat years and they have lean years. In NM, the government has a "let's go for it!" mentality and starts spending on everything and anything during fat years. Good budget staff should plan for the lean years because they're will always be some. There were times when I worked for state government and was asked, "What do you need? You need to get it now because it's use it or lose it." The same when I worked for the Dept. of Ed. Good, frugal and forward thinking planning is the key. I'm glad to see some of the cuts made. I was a State worker when the Status on the Commission for Women was developed. I thought at the time (early 80's) that was a dumb commission. I thought, "Well, someone's got some money to get rid of."  (Jun 11, 2011 | post #3)

Why don't the two Alamogordo markets and the Tulie market combine into one market? That would be a big market and one-stop shopping.  (Jun 7, 2011 | post #2)

State plans to stop food stamp supplement for elderly

But, I would like to learn more about the statement, " But the Democratic-control led Legislature provided no money to continue the supplemental benefits in the upcoming budget year, which starts July 1. The Martinez administration had requested $600,000 from the Legislature to continue the program." Why would Martinez be attributed with the cut when she had requested money from a Democratic - controlled legislature? Something's not on the up and up here....  (Jun 4, 2011 | post #39)

Talk about "Death Panels." Some of these receipients are going to really be suffering with less food stamps.  (Jun 4, 2011 | post #38)

Holloman mom gets 25 years for daughter's death

Ahh....but who cares if you never get to "see her grow up" or that you'll "live with that for eternity." That's the point. You should suffer for what has been done. The point of this is severe and willful child neglect. If no computer games were present, other means of self-entertainment would have been pursued so she could have neglected that child. Yep. It was your duty and you failed.  (Jun 4, 2011 | post #18)
