Very true statements. i can't argue with them. I guess you need to decide how important it is to contribute to an overall good cause. The problem is (and welfare too) that the good and needy are mixed in with the lazies. Since you cannot separate them, you have to look at things as a whole. Obama has to look at it that way, he has no choice and neither do we. Either way, even with my agreements to your points, we STILL have a system that is unsustainable and the insurance companies are STILL making unfair decisions on people that need help the most right? And we agree that that is wrong. Therefore, it is STILL imperative that we reform the system, maybe we dig deeper to see what is fair and not to your points, but it still needs to happen. You must agree that there are people who are denied coveage who generally try to take care of themselves but don't have the money or the means but have a serious condition. It is a right thing to try and help people who have been wronged. And it is wrong for the neediest to have to pay the most expensive costs. Sure, people make wrong decisions and should be held accountable but in life and death? If a guy tied himself with rope on the railroad tracks because he was depressed, would you help him or let him die? Your way, he would be killed, my way, I would use any good fortune I had to try and save him and give him hope If i could. There may come a day when you may need a helping hand when you are down. What goes around, comes around. Think about it!  (Mar 12, 2010 | post #20)

Good point but...it is a larger issue than just that. However, don't you think that part of being a member of society is contributing something to a cause larger than just yourself? Can you rememmber a time when somebody did something for you whom you didn't know directly? We can live our lives only for ourselves or choose to help all. Since we all live together and are basically selfish in our ways most of the time, it is nice to think of all once in awhile and help the community. Step up!  (Feb 14, 2010 | post #17)

Troy, that is too simplistic a view. Comment on the depth of the issue like the other guy did rather than a general statement that offers no insight. All sacrifices have an upside and a downside. It is really a matter of evaluating both sides and determining which directions offers more advantage overall with the least cost. You don't seem to care about the fact that the system is unsustainable as is. Doing nothing is not an option. I suggest you read Common's remarks and provide insight that is more thoughtful.  (Feb 11, 2010 | post #15)

That is the best summary I have read yet that makes total sense. Why would anyone not be for that? YOU ARE ABSOLUTELY CORRECT. So, somebody explain to me given the sound arguement that Common just made, why it is that the majority of people on here and elsewhere continue to think it is a bad idea?? You are right on! Nobody with any intellect could argue against such truths which makes me question the sanity of the populace.  (Jan 23, 2010 | post #13)

You folks aren't paying attention! He said it would raise taxes on individuals making more than $500,000 or couples making over 1 million. Money has to come from somewhere. That tax concept should be acceptable since it affects 1% of all of us. Since when is improving our lives unconstitutional? IT IS GOVERNMENTS JOB TP PROTECT US FROM ABUSE OF THE SYSTEM and hopefully promote concepts of improvement. THE SYSTEM IS UNSUSTAINABLE AND THE INSURANCE COMPANYS SELECTIVELY DENY THE MOST NEEDY. DOESN'T ANYBODY CARE ABOUT THAT OR DO WE ONLY CARE ABOUT OURSELVES??  (Jan 22, 2010 | post #10)
