Religion and Spirituality--not the same.

I have a friend who came down with encephalitis and was comatose for several days, and then as he got worse, his brain was so swollen they didn't expect him to live through the night. So even though he was not clinically dead, he was just a hair from it. About 6 months after the experience and dozens of visits of physical and speech therapy, he was able to describe to us what he experienced that one particular night where he was so close to death. Now this guy was heavy into American Indians and had been told once that he had an old chief-medicine man for a guide. My friend said he remembers laying on the ground wrapped in a buffalo robe beside a fire, and this old Native American was dancing around the fire chanting out a medicine song. Now since my family is friends with his, my mother accompanied his mother into the ICU to see my friend right as he was coming out of his coma. One of the ICU nurses pulled his mother over to the side and had a perplexed look on her face. She asked his mother when and where he learned how to speak the Sioux language. His mom said as far as she knew, he couldn't speak the tongue, so asked the nurse why she asked such a thing. The nurse said she could speak Sioux fluently because she used to work on one of the reservations in South Dakota, and it so happened that all through the night my friend had been talking in his sleep (or coma) and had everyone in ICU wondering what was going on. But it didn't stop there because a few days later, the doctor also asked his family if he had taken French in school because he had also been speaking that fluently in his sleep! Neither the medical team or his family could explain it, but my friend believes he visited the in-between world, where he had one foot in spirit and one still in the physical, and that these were friendly spirits of those who already passed who were praying for him and getting ready to send him back. Apparently while there, he was able to understand their language and speak it as well. I've known him for years and know he would not make something like this up, so believe he experienced something wonderful. Besides, I have had a few experiences myself ....never died or anything, but enough to make me believe that there is life after death.  (Dec 5, 2012 | post #121)

Republicans Alienate Freeloading Disabled Voters

“I do not support the cumbersome regulations and potentially overzealous international organizations with anti-American biases that infringe upon American society,” said Sen. Jim Inhofe, R-Okla. I wonder, do other countries have TV reality shows that showcase whackadoo U.S. politicians like this dimlight? Sen. Inhofe is absolutely wrong. No UN treaty can ever supersede the laws of the United States; the Supreme Court has ruled that the Supremacy Clause of the US Consitution specifically forbids it. This is pure right wing fear-mongering at its most evil, and it’s flat out disgusting.  (Dec 5, 2012 | post #7)

Why GOP Won't Admit Supply Side Economics Has Failed

The Bush tax cuts have cost us trillions in revenue, and if ever extended again would cost another trillion over the coming decade. These tax cuts were supposed to stimulate economic growth and encourage those wealthy at the top to create jobs, but after a decade of waiting for the magic to happen, manufacturing is way down and wages remain flat. These tax cuts were supposed to pay for themselves but they have had no positive effect on the economy. The Bush tax cuts were like a loan from the Social Security Trust Fund which was supposed to pay for themselves and be paid back in with revenues from higher economic growth ----which never happened----so it's a loan that is presently in default. The Bush Tax cuts were never meant to be permanent, either, but the Republicans have created an allusion that if they are allowed to expire, Obama is raising taxes. Instead it is just letting the tax rate return to Clinton levels when our economy prospered. http://www.thefisc altimes.com/Column s/2012/12/04/Why-t he-GOP-Wont-Admit- Supply-Side-Econ-H as-Failed.aspx#pag e1  (Dec 5, 2012 | post #1)

How Obama's homosexual support hurts traditional families!

So Jesus loved everyone but the queers (your words, not mine) huh? Where do you read that he loved all the other sinners......forni cators, thieves, murderers, adulterers, bigots, liars, etc.....but he just couldn't bring himself to love gay people? What book in the Bible is that found in? I think someone is spouting his biblical ignorance and just expressing his own hateful thoughts.  (Nov 28, 2012 | post #100)

Topix posters, Haters Hall of Fame!

Those accusing others of something dirty are usually doing it themselves or thinking about it. Your little statement says a lot more about who you are than being insulting to the guy like you thought it would.  (Nov 28, 2012 | post #24)

Why Voice was removed from Topix

He'll change his name again and come back like he's done about a dozen times so far after getting kicked off topix ---probably will call himself something like "the Voice of Sound Perfection" or something like that. Gee, how many names has he used so far? King james, Voice of Sound Reason, can't remember all of them. You can bet whatever name he takes again, you'll recognize him right away.  (Nov 28, 2012 | post #3)

Our Lord and Savior Barack Obama

Jesus was a Jew and he practiced that religion, He did not come to establish a new religion. Besides, Christianity of today was nothing like it was back then (it didn't exist back then). Only the Jewish scripture existed back then, not all the scripture we read in the Bible today. That was gathered up approximately 400 years or more after Jesus' death. Back in the beginnings there were arguments among the scholars and religious leaders as to what things were holy and what things should be included in their creed. The "virgin' birth was one of the things they argued over, for it was something borrowed from the cult religious lore. Apparently you have never studied or read about the Council of Niccaea (325 a.d.) and what a dark poeriod that was as all the scholars argued over what should be included in the Bible and what holy writing should not. . Also read about the Emperor Constantine, who was a worshipper of Sol Evictus (the Sun) who incorporated his religion's beliefs into the new Christain one we practice today.  (Nov 28, 2012 | post #43)

Then how do you explain all the many mistakes and contradictions? Do you know what language most of the original works were written in? Aramaic. Go to the library and take out a book called "The New Testament, according to the Eastern text, by George M. Lamsa. He speaks the fluent Aramaic language, which Jesus spoke, and he goes through some of the mistranslations that are found in the English version of the Bible. . If the Bible was the 'perfect' word of God, it would not have any mistakes in it.  (Nov 28, 2012 | post #42)

MSNBC's Prime-time Trounces FOX News since the Election

Here's a good book I want to order...one that intelligent people should read. FROM THE INSERT: When Fox News debuted it was crafted from scratch to be a partisan outlet for right-wing propaganda and a platform for advancing a conservative agenda. Its Internet community web site, Fox Nation, serves as the online gathering place for Fox viewers to absorb and spread the aggregated disinformation and conspiracy theories hatched by Fox News. The statement of purpose posted on the Fox Nation web site says that it is “committed to the core principles of tolerance, open debate, civil discourse, and fair and balanced coverage of the news.” However, a cursory glance at the site reveals that they have fallen wide of their stated purpose by several light years. This first volume of Fox Nation vs. Reality is a collection of some of the blatant falsehoods found on Fox Nation. These are not mere differences of opinion or discussions that might have varying degrees of perspective. They are obvious, provable, out and out lies. They are manifestations of a disconnect with the real world. But they are not the result of psychosis or mistake. They are deliberate and purposeful. They are aimed at an ill-informed audience that is only interested in having their prejudices affirmed. And Fox News is only too happy to accommodate them. In Fox Nation vs. Reality you will find a compilation of articles originally published on the media analysis web site News Corpse. They provide an eye-opening look into the lengths that committed propagandists will go in order to fabricate an alternative political reality. And remember that Fox Nation is not some remote outpost on the Internet Superhighway. It is an integral part of Fox News whose executives are wholly responsible for the stain it produces on journalism. http://www.amazon. com/gp/product/B00 A8PD694?ie=UTF8 &camp=1789 &creativeASIN= B00A8PD694&lin kCode=xm2&tag= newscorpsecom-20  (Nov 26, 2012 | post #6)

MSNBC's Prime-time Trounces FOX News since the Election

Good one. This is interesting, too. There was a study taken that showed watching FOX News makes people less informed than watching no news at all. http://www.busines sinsider.com/study -watching-fox-news -makes-you-less-in formed-than-watchi ng-no-news-at-all- 2012-5  (Nov 26, 2012 | post #5)

MSNBC's Prime-time Trounces FOX News since the Election

I have watched MSNBC for years. When they make a mistake, by the next night, whoever misspoke will correct their mistake and set the record straight. Ed Shultz called one woman a slut one time, and he apologized the very next night. It was a heartfelt apology as well, and he truly was ashamed of his behavior. If I remember correctly, he took time off the air without pay. I think you really have the nerve to bring that up when one of your favored republican pundits, Rush limbaugh also called a young lady a slut and has never apologized. By golly, MSNBC's polls were correct and they predicted Obama would win a second term....unlike FOX who ridiculed all polls that said Obama was ahead, and that Romney would be winning by a landslide. Go ahead and stick with FOX, I'll stay tuned to the network that states facts.  (Nov 26, 2012 | post #4)

Florida's West refuses to relinquish seat in Congress to ...

West is nothing more than obnoxious and certifiably crazy and has no business in congress. If he wants a recount, make him pay for it himself with his own funds.  (Nov 10, 2012 | post #2)

Obama still poised to win 303 electoral votes on Tuesday

How can you say it's not a huge win when Obama got 332 electoral votes to Romney's measly 206? Then Obama won the popular vote, too. You need to accept that the face of America is changing and getting more diverse. Obama won the majority of the women's vote, the black vote, the Hispanic vote, the Asian vote and most of the youth vote. Obama won the Future while Romeny won those white supremacists who are afraid to move forward and leave the past.  (Nov 10, 2012 | post #111)
