Fast-growing county has to take out bank loan

Did you read the article? The state is not allowing them to use their property tax money because they have not filed their 2005 audit. They are not broke, just stupid.  (May 6, 2008 | post #4)

Man killed trying to cross I-25; morning commute jammed

http://www.9news.c om/news/article.as px?storyid=91186 This just pisses me off. Why can't the cops take 1000's of pictures, have an ambulance crew remove the body & let traffic resume ASAP. Or at least cover the body or surround it with cop cars to keep them damned rubber neckers from seeing it?  (May 5, 2008 | post #1)

Colorado's dying trees

I work for CDOT. Our maintanence crews will make any excuse to not blame their precious MgCl for anything. Mag Chloride kills vegitation. It causes rust. It is destroying our bridges. It is expensive. People just need to learn to drive on snowpack & ice. Then we can stop wasting our money on it.  (Apr 28, 2008 | post #68)

Colorado I-70 Toll Measure Hits Skids

Tolling in CO is a failure. Look at E-470 & the Northwest Parkway. Both are not making as much as they projected. NWPky even failed & had to sell of the bond to a foriegn investor. Why? People don't like paying a luxury tax on transportation. People always say they want alternatives, but they always pick to drive. They want the other alternatives for everyone else so that their drive is faster. CDOT's HOV/HOT lane experiment is not as successful as they claiim. They used the low end of the traffic projections. But anyway, the revenue generated is barely enough to keep it plowed. CDOT doesn't want tolls, they need more money. Costs have gone up 3-4x while funding has dropped. The Feds are giving less & more efficient vehicles reduce the amount of fuel taxes being paid. Toll proposals are being used as scare tatics to prepair us to pay more. They question is to how to fairly distribute the costs. Cars are ~90% of the traffic but only cause ~10% of the damage. Truckers kill the roads, but don't contribute much congestion. So who pays? CDOT is looking to cut over $200 million from its resurfacing funds this year. Expect bumpier roads while they can't fix them.  (Apr 26, 2008 | post #4)

Stupidity in the Airlines

How is it that airlines are loosing money? I travel a lot for work & I have yet to be on a plane this year that was not overbooked. They say fuel prices are killing their profits. With the demand for air travel, why don't they raise prices? They may loose some of the overbookings, but the planes will still be full. Overbooking is another stupid thing. They sell some one a ticket. Then they offer a free ticket if they give up thier seat for a later flight. So you get 2 trips for the price of one. If they are worried about cancelations, change your policy. No refunds two weeks prior to departure. Let people buy travel insurance for unforeseen cancelation reasons. 2 years ago, I took 5 free trips from one ticket that I didn't even have to pay for. I  (Apr 23, 2008 | post #1)

Bruce told to leave podium over remark about Mexican workers

If he would have said it in a nice PC way, how many people would know about our state government selling out its citizens? This was a perfectly calculated move to bring a piece of crap measure out of the shadows. It worked. People may be mad at him now, but how many more people are mad at our taxpayer money being used to bring iliterate peasants from another country to work in our fields? Jobs that should be done by americans. Jobs that could take someone off of the goverments social program teet? & mrinternet, he is not representing ALL Coloradians. He is representing his district in the Colorado Springs area.  (Apr 22, 2008 | post #35)

Bruce told to leave podium over remark about Mexican workers

What did he say that was so wrong? Was it because it was true & hurt someones feelings? Too effing bad, go cry in the corner. Fact, most of the folks the state wants to bring ARE iliterate. Fact, a peasant works on a farm, exactly where the state wants to bring them. Why is it so wrong to put the two facts together? They ARE iliterate peasants. Get over yourself, you PC elitists. They just hate Doug because he handcuffed thier out of control socialist spending. We need more people in the state house that are not afraid to ruffle a few feathers. I hope Colorado Springs reelects him in a landslide.  (Apr 21, 2008 | post #9)

Is Big Oil Contributing to U.S. Instability and Economic Decline

I wish they would impose a huge $100/barrel export tax on petrolium. If we are a net importer, there should be no incentive to export it.  (Apr 18, 2008 | post #6)

Is Big Oil Contributing to U.S. Instability and Economic Decline

1 Euro = $1.53. It used to be the other way around. The price of oil has stayed the same globally, but people & the governemnt weakened the dollar by borrowing far to much. Now we are all paying for the mistakes of over-borrowing. Same thing has happened with gold. It was ~$400 a few years ago, now it is reaching $1,000. Not because it is more valuable, but because the value of the dollar has be destroyed. Blame Clinton for starting it in the 90s with high taxes & low interest rates & blame Bush for ignoring the crisis & his unwillingness to say no to any increase in pork barrel spending approved by a republican congress. The 2 wars are having a minimal impact on the price. Supply has not been choked as some predicted. Demand from an extra 1.7 billion folks in China & India are also to blame. We are competing in a global auction for oil. Sale to the highest bidder.  (Apr 17, 2008 | post #2)

Wal-Mart Charges More for Groceries in Low-Income Neighborhoods

Maybe higher shoplifting rates cause stores in low income areas to charge more. Why should store with low shoplifting losses pay for the ones with higher rates. Insurace in those areas may be higher also. It is simple econ 101. Prices must cover all expenses.  (Apr 8, 2008 | post #6)

Oil Prices

Lets strengthen the dollar so oil prices keep dropping. We need to raise interest rates. Stop pork barrel spending. DO NOT BAIL OUT THE SUB-PRIME LENDERS. Not driving on a sunday won't make much of a statement. I don't already because it is a day to rest & watch sports. Maybe I will go drive, just to offset the moron that believe stikes like this work.  (Apr 3, 2008 | post #3)

SUPPORT THE TRUCKER'S STRIKE '08

Why must a law be passed that you can negotiate on your own with the broker? If you are not getting the price you want to haul a load, don't. If you truckers united & demanded fees to cover your expenses, you will be more successful. Do not drop the fuel taxes. Highways are already falling apart. States rely on the federal tax to maintain the NHS that you truck drivers tear apart. Trucks may only make up 20% of the traffic, but they contribute over 90% of the damage to our roads. A road with 100% cars will wear out from age, not traffic loading. We should be raising the gas taxes to build more lanes. This will reduce congestion & reduce wasted gas. It may also stear more people to cars that get more than 15 mpg. Imagine the glut of gas if everyone switched to cars getting 25+ mpg. Gas prices would be back in the $1-2 range. We need to build a new rail system to haul bulk goods. It is stupid to truck goods cross country. I hear the rail companies advertise 200+ mpg for an equivalent load of a truck. We could even build power lines to power these trains. They could run off the coal generated (or wind...) electricity & save the diesel for lines that don't have power. All modern trains run on electricity generated by the diesel generators. Trucks would be used as distributers from the rail hubs. Overnight trips would be a thing the past. Truckers could sleep in their own beds, instead of in the cab wastefully burning away fuel.  (Apr 3, 2008 | post #61)

SUPPORT THE TRUCKER'S STRIKE '08

It is less refined, but takes 25% more oil per gallon. In the past diesel was not in demand, so it was cheaper than gas. Now the demand is there and diesel costs what it should in proportion to gas. $3.19 x 1.25 = $3.98. Let me ask this question to all the truck drivers out there. If you want to save fuel costs, why do you keep running your gas guzzeling engines when you are not driving? What are you burning away, 2-3 gallons/hour. During the 14 hours you can't drive, thats 28-42 gallons, $112-168 per day. Go to any truck stop & you see hundreds of trucks idling away. We need a new law to limit idling to 5 minutes. Now that would save a ton of gas.  (Apr 2, 2008 | post #47)
