Well i'm happy to inform you that i am hardly simple minded, and am fully aware of the type you are referring to. You may ask any 40+ year old that knows me, and they will tell you I am wise beyond my years and very mature for my age. I am not some spaz who's thoughts go a mile a minute and doesn't care about anything. I am also not naive enough to buy anything the media touts. I think critically of almost everything. You are generalizing an entire clump of people into a bunch of easily manipulated little minded people, which is not at all true. No, I do not know as much now as i will when I'm 30, but that does not mean i know nothing now. If you really want to understand kids today, then why don't you think back to when you were their age and how you felt and acted. If you can't, then that really sucks for you. Whenever my niece is in distress, i try to be as empathetic to her as possible, and one of the ways i do that is thinking back to how i felt as a kid. By doing this, it's easier for me to understand her current state of mind. I really don't know what kind of young adults you know, but they must not be very ambitious or success oriented if they are as you described. I would like to add that i do not publicly go on a newspaper forum and rattle off at the mouth about something in which i have no clue about. With that said, it's quite obvious that everything I have said in this particular forum is based off of fact seen and heard through my own eyes and ears. I do not make things up, and i do not imagine things or borrow things from the media. I see it first hand. If a group of 50-something year old's agrees with every single thing I've said about the welfare system, all in varying demographics, all of different social status, then how can you blame what i am saying on my age? I have always worked with many people much older than I am, and believe me when i say this subject comes up frequently because of the clientele that shops at my store. Nothing I've said has been on a whim except for my last post.  (Wednesday Dec 23 | post #209)

I have to agree that it's Hannaford and i can't believe this is an actual argument between people right now LOL. Not here to take sides, just to give my opinion on grammar since i'm so incredibly finicky about it LOL. In response to NH lady i believe the reason they say, 'sign up for Hannaford's weekly flyer e-mail', is because they're talking about something of theirs, so there is an apostrophe and S at the end. It wouldn't be proper English or grammatically correct to say sign up for Hannaford weekly flyer. It would be like me saying to someone, 'Hey, want to go over Joe's house?'. The person's name is not Joe's, but you wouldn't say Joe house. And if you would please take notice NH lady, the link you provided does not say www.hannafords.com , it says www.hannaford.com. Just want to put in my two cents :) Everyone here in Rotterdam calls Walmart 'Walmart's'....It drives me absolutely NUTS!  (Wednesday Dec 23 | post #38)

Thank you for making an opinion for me. HOWEVER, that IS NOT MY OPINION. I never said it was. Please get your head on straight, I've had about enough of people putting words into my mouth and forming opinions for me. I do that all on my own quite fine. However, i would much rather a person GO TO WORK than get a check from the government for doing NOTHING and NEVER trying to do something for society! You'd rather people just not work when all there is available is low paying jobs? You're on unemployment? Must be you're jealous that i have a job, huh? That's why you keep making stupid assumptions of "me" and my "opinions " and "beliefs " and "wages" and "money problems". Don't make me laugh. Well, AGAIN that is!!  (Sunday Dec 20 | post #207)

I think you have eaten considerably healthy if you are not ill. If you've avoided trans and saturated fats and not taken in too many calories, eaten fruits and veggies most your life, i think you've done just fine. Unlike people now who eat nothing but chips and snack cakes!  (Sunday Dec 20 | post #22)

Unfortunately, i don't like shrimp. It doesnt't taste bad, i just feel like i'm biting into a finger. YUCK. I don't eat any seafood actually. But, here's the thing. If i ate unhealthy every day of my life (which i have in the past, hence the weight!, byt he time i was 70 i wouldn't be able to eat a slice of pizza or a bowl of ice cream anytime i want (my grandpa can!). Where's the fun in that? I'd rather eat healthy most of the time and treat myself every once in a while. Just think about it, idk how old you are, but you must have eaten healthy most of your life in order to be able to eat shrimp and chicken wings still! :]  (Thursday Dec 17 | post #17)

QUOTE who="Mike Mulligan"] <quoted text> I’d like to know if are in trouble with credit cards. I am just trying to figure out where your mean and nasty attitude comes from about people who are in trouble and using welfare or other such programs. I figure you are but a figurine of the imagination of the conservatives and the libertarians. [/QUOTE] A figurine of the imagination? Do you mean figment? I am not in trouble with anything, your assumptions of me having money troubles leading to me believing that there are people that abuse the welfare system is asinine. My whole point in the beginning of this whole thing was that most people that buy from my work (and other stores as well) with their food stamps buy nothing by junk food and they should be spending all of that money on healthier food. I spend a lot of money on organic food and produce and every freaking CENT comes from me working. Personally, i feel the system is a bit screwy to even allow junk food to qualify for food stamp purchases. My concern stems from my career choice which is a hybrid of therapy and being a nutritionist. Since i study nutrition, THAT is why i initially voiced my concern! Since i eat healthy and spend a lot of money eating healthy, that is also why i voiced my concern! There are no inner issues of mine causing me to object to people that take advantage when there are others who have to work for what they have! I am also an advocate for those who need help and don't get it! Another point...you can't get S.H.I.T. for help unless you have a child or are mentally or physically handicap. If you're 20 and single and living on your own working 40 hours a week at a low paying job (who in Benn has a high paying one? Not many people at 20 do either) and you can't seem to make ends meet without eating macaroni and cheese every night for dinner (HIGHLY unhealthy), you cannot get any help when you need it. What if you're 40 and single and in the same situation? Odds are you can't get crap then either which is messed up. The only way you can is if you have a child. Why would you reward someone at 20 for having a child by handing them a check every month for nothing? They should be in college or working! And then, as Vermontica has shared, she barely gets crap for her and her two kids and according to her she needs more. How is that fair to her? To anyone? Yet on the other hand you have young women who have many kids and no ambition to even work at a McDonalds and they're handed a thousand bucks a month. And those are the ones that buy nothing but crap for their kids and sit there in the store screaming and hitting their kids all the time. I'm not wrong, because on the receipt at work the remaining balance prints out and it's available for anyone to view that gets their hands on that receipt! My whole point, is SOME PEOPLE, SOME SOME SOME...i'll say it again so everyone can get it through their heads...SOME PEOPLE, NOT ALL, "SOME" (get it??) should be MORE appreciative of the money they are given to help their families survive by at least having the decency to feed their child healthy food so many illnesses in their future can be prevented! They should not make a mockery of hard working people who do want to do well by their children by feeding them healthy food. This country has an obesity epidemic and it obviously has an ignorance epidemic as well! What the hell is happening to people and the way they think?  (Thursday Dec 17 | post #193)
