Area legend Vince Carter coming home

I think we all knew Alston and Battie were probably heading out of town b/c of their contracts. What I don't think people realized was that C. Lee was leaving. Yes, Lee had a great rookie year. Yes, the Magic have a history of sending players away too soon; however, for all of the Magic fans crying last night over a guy that played 1 season for the Magic, you are getting instant offense in Vince Carter - 23 points a game. For those whining about Otis not dumping JJ - don't you think he tried that one? No one wants him. Get over it!!! We get someone who can drive the lane and has the NBA cred to not to be called for the foul or traveling and will get the whistle if touched. He is a slasher and a shooter. He has been very healthy for the last 2 years (maybe more). While I do not think Vince puts us as the legit #1 team in the East, I think we are better today than we were yesterday. Would still love to see a big body PF - maybe Anderson can fill that role - who knows.  (Jun 26, 2009 | post #1)

Source: Vince Carter to Orlando Magic deal near completion

You guys can say what you want about Lee and Turk - I loved both of them - but this trade was brought about b/c... 1. The Magic were reacting to what Hedo is going to be offered by Portland, which the Magic are not willing to match, therefore, needed to find another player to put up 15+ points a night. 2. Just like we exposed Cleveland in the playoffs, the Magic were exposed by not having someone that was willing to drive the lane and finish. Very rarely did Hedo/Rashard do this - they would drive, pass or pull up. Hopefuly, the Magic will be able to pull a sign-n-trade with Portland or whomever Hedo decides to sign with. Starting Line-up... PG - Nelson SG - Carter SF - Lewis PF - ??? C - Howard  (Jun 25, 2009 | post #145)

Father's Day: Where's the love for dads? Is Father's Day ...

I am a single father - I share custody with my ex-wife. For Mother's Day, I let her have him a day early (@ 7.00 PM) and keep him all day Sunday, even though he was supposed to come back to me at 7 PM. I asked for the same courtesy. She said "no" and expects him back at 7 PM tonight. Ironically, I get him back at 9 AM on Monday morning. She said if I do keep him, I have to give her compensation for the 14 hours extra that he is with me. She will never admit that I am a good father. Today, when I picked him up, I got the same Father's Day gift I have gotten for the past 2 years - nothing.  (Jun 21, 2009 | post #7)

Orlando Magic fans can't let up now

I have LOVED the Magic from the very first game - 20 years ago!!! Been with them through thick and thin; however, yesterday was the very first time I was VERY ticked off at the team. They held their "Thank You" rally at 8 AM when most people could not attend. To top it off, no players showed up!!!! Come on, at least give us JJ or AJ - throw us a bone!!! The fans deserved better!!  (Jun 20, 2009 | post #6)

Sputtering economy jeopardizes renovation of some Orange ...

No New Taxes!!!! We are taxed enough as it is and more are on the way to pay for all of Obama's plans. This school board is utterly useless and only pander to their electorate and not the best interest of the children or district :(  (Jun 9, 2009 | post #2)

Autism surge challenges schools

Schools do not label children autism. It is a combination medical/phychologi cal diagnosis. If a parent has a diagnosis of ASD and the school refuses to recognize it, then the parent should insist correct diagnosis in the IEP meeting (request the Dr. McIntire is present if in Orange). I do understand why many schools (and parents) would rather opt for a DD label versus an EH, EMH or SLD label. It gives a child an opportunity grow out of a functionality if possible (this happens quite a bit). In regards to labeling a child with autism, early intervention is the key. The sooner, the better. In Orange County, any parent can take their child to the Children's Developmental Center. A parent can get a full diagnosis of their child's ability.  (Jun 7, 2009 | post #32)

My Word: We all deserve a paid break

Statistics and data can be skewed and rewritten to prove anything you want. I am sure there is data out there that says a paid vacation does not increase work performance, work ethic or make an employee happier. The gov't keeps getting bigger and bigger and bigger. Big Brother is watching. America is becoming a very scary place to live. One can already see the parallels between the rise and fall of the Roman empire and that of the United States. Sadly, we are in decline. We have failed to learn our history and now we are doomed to the fate of the great empires of old.  (Jun 3, 2009 | post #15)

school closings put on hold in Orange county

Big mistake - maybe Blocker and his cronnies will cut some of their salary. 6 Area Supes making over $100K? Close all 6 learning communities down and save over $4 mil.  (May 26, 2009 | post #13)

Kids with ADHD need to fidget, study says

I agree with the study - I am an adult with ADD (they didn't have ADHD when I was diagnosed) and I still like to move around, fidget, etc. My boss is very understanding. She knows that in meetings, I like to stands or play with something in my hands. I always tell people it helps me concentrate and think better - which it does.  (May 25, 2009 | post #6)

Orange schools' start times: Will flip back be worth it?

I agree, except those people are probably supporters of the governor financially; therefore, nothing is going to happen with the governor. Personally, I truly believe Vicky Bell did everything in her power both ethically and unethically to maintain the original start time. I sat in multiple community forums in which she spoke and lied. The first meeting, she was called out by the parents at the meeting and she said she had bad information from the school district. Okay, that is acceptable...excep t, she used the SAME DATA at the very next meeting, was called out again for it and claimed she had bad data from the district - why use it again unless you are pushing an agenda????? While I don not think the 2 other school board members became as vocal about the flip as Bell, to my knowledge (and from reading comments on this board and the blog), they both have kept their mouth shut, just refused to reverse the flip. Bottom line is the school board voted to spend $5K of tax payer money to have a report done and refused to listen to it!!! The 4 members who voted to not listed to the report should be "booooooooooo ooooooooooooo'd " everytime they are seen in public for wasting tax payer money and pushing cashing in their political capital versus doing what is right for children (based on reseach - start times). Shame on you!!!  (May 23, 2009 | post #4)

Lee will return as starter for Magic against Cavs

JJ served the Magic well against the Celtics, but it is time for Courtney to step back in and play with the speed, athleticism and intensity that no one else on the Magic has. I would love to see Courtney light up the Cavs each night. He has a favorable matchup against Delonte West.  (May 19, 2009 | post #6)

Schedule swap in Orange County schools will stand

What did I say that was damaging about school board members? That one of them lied to the public in open meetings? It is true - people called her out on it and she played dumb saying that she had poor information; however, she went to the next public meeting quoting the same information and then having to back off of it. If that is not lying, I do not know what is. Telling teachers to "booooooooooo o" school board members when we see them? That is not disparaging. They are not the boss of the teachers - just the superintendent. When I see Vicky Bell - booooooooooooooooo oooooooooooo When I see Ricky Roach - Booooooooooooooooo oooooooooooo  (May 19, 2009 | post #55)
