$5 Gas? It Could Be a Reality in 2012

Yes, I understand that life gets in the way and it's difficult to keep up-to-date on the changes taking place in this country. My apologies if I cam across seemingly calling the American Public "Stupid" as that's not the case. What I'm refering to is the fact that we let them walk all over us and accept it as an inevitability. THAT'S what I don't understand. I'm a constitutionalist myself, and I applaud your presence for Lobby Day and wish I could've been there. I just don't know where we went wrong. When I think back to wars started over matters much less serious than this...it's like we fear them now. I'm sure they wouldn't have it any other way. I don't make a lot of money, I simply make ends meet. When I do my taxes to find out I spent over 23K in taxes alone last year (income as well as tax on day-to-day expenses,) then they're telling me I owe an additional $1,200...well, I guess you can say I'm livid. It's unacceptable. They're spending it faster than I can shell it out and demanding more. Our rights are becoming obsolete in the name of our personal safety, we're herded like animals & treated like criminals if we're required to travel, the only truth we know about our leaders are their lies...the list goes on & on. I don't know...I suppose I'm just fed up with the Fed.  (Jan 19, 2011 | post #125)

$5 Gas? It Could Be a Reality in 2012

You can wrap it up in pretty paper and a fancy bow...but no matter how you present it, the ugly truth is that America is a hot mess. I feel like this country is the "teen" of the world's countries; the one who thinks they know everything, standing on it's soap box bullying others who aren't like itself, and we're better than everyone else. We remain blissfully ignorant (except for a few million of the population who have a real grip on reality.) It's almost as if society is incapable of looking at the big picture...I'm not sure why. Is it easier to get through the day-to-day routine by not caring? The $5.00 gas, the extra taxes (I paid over 23,000 in tax last year & that includes my paycheck, gas tax, sales tax, grocery tax, etc...I itemized simply to see what I was actually spending,) healthcare and the laundry list of other problems we seem to have. When looking at the BIG picture, can we not see the problems? Though I'm not a fan of the man, it's not Obama, he's merely a spokesperson for this country. Isn't anyone concerned about what's actually happening? I know I'm among intelligent people, like Sammy, RC & Taz...I'd love to know what you think.  (Jan 18, 2011 | post #116)

Frankly, I don't see why it's still an issue when we've developed the technologies required to fuel a vehicle using only water. We're so much better than this fight for oil and we have the capabilities of doing so much more; I can't understand why we haven't began migrting in that direction, slowly introducing the technology to large corporations like Ford, Toyota, etc. Of course, special interest has a lot to do with it, but we could find America on the leading edge of automotive technology, but we'd rather kill and be killed, and have our wallets raped for oil. Though I'm not corrupt like the leaders of America, I understand it's all about the mighty dollar...but the dollar isn't all that mighty anymore. Perhaps it's time to utilize our resources elsewhere.  (Jan 4, 2011 | post #24)

Reader inquires as to seeing pets in heaven

I like to think they'll be waiting for me there. It's more comforting to assume they will be. I dont like to imagine being without my luvs in life or thereafter.  (Dec 22, 2010 | post #21)

Holiday Spending - Powhatan, VA

The fall of the economy has made us realize what's really important - one another. We might do something small for the youngsters, but other than that, we'll just feast and enjoy one another's company.  (Nov 29, 2010 | post #1)

LOL!! My trainer said I gained a half a pound (which I think is good, considering how great my family cooks!) It was awesome, but now I'm balls-to-the-wall back on this diet he has me on, and he has been kicking my tail. Did yall go out on Black Friday? I stayed home, I think I made one trip to Dollar Tree for stocking stuffers for my cousins, but that's about it. I think I'm going to skip retail Christmas this year. Maybe a little something for the youngins in the family, but we're just going to enjoy everyone's company. That's the way it should be, anyway. Listening to Lite 98's Xmas music now :) I'm so ready for it!!  (Nov 29, 2010 | post #887)

I totally agree with you, once they've reached their expiration deadline. But, it doesn't mention that. If the reason for the unemployment benefits of a whopping $315/wk is simply to preserve tax cuts for the rich, that's disgusting. Especially when there are people out the who don't know how their electric bills will get paid or where food is coming from. Not cool. If it's their time for benefits to expire without renewal, then it's just what has to be done. but, if the reason is so the rich get richer...that's foul.  (Nov 22, 2010 | post #882)

Did yall see this story on WTVR?? "Jobless benefits will run out for 2 million people during the holiday season unless they are renewed by a Congress that's focusing more attention on a quarrel over preserving tax cuts for people making more than $200,000 a year. It's looking iffy at best whether Congress will renew jobless benefits averaging $310 per week nationwide that are presently claimed by almost 5 million people who have been out of work for more than six months."  (Nov 19, 2010 | post #880)

LOL! She never brought it up. I don't think she knew it was me, either. I didn't confront her about it because I'm a coward, still trying to be liked by the future in-laws :-P All I know is to watch out when she's on the road!  (Nov 12, 2010 | post #875)

Shooot, I don't think I'm capable. I've noticed the older I get, the more conservative I've become. Scary stuff! I remember not even 5 years ago, I thought I could save the world and change the corruption. I wonder when exactly it happens that you realize you have to play the game to get ahead in life. I guess that's called growing up. -This public service message was brought to you by your friends at PBS, and viewers like you!-  (Nov 10, 2010 | post #873)
