Where are you applying?

Left Walgreens and started at Menards about a month ago....very good opportunity if you don't have any kids. As long as you're willing to relocate, you'll be promoted quickly. Menards is a growing company. Their competition (Lowe's and Home Depot) are either stagnant (Lowe's) or closing stores (Home Depot). Menards is opening stores at a rate of 10 - 15 per year. Great opportunity. Have to have a 4 year degree to be a manager though....  (Jun 26, 2012 | post #4)

Vacation, followed by 2 weeks notice?

I gave notice, then turned around and used my remaining vacation days. As of now, I've been done with the company for over 2 weeks, but I'm still on payroll because they are paying me vacation. That, of course, really depends on your store manager. Mine told me he would let corporate figure it out once he coded me off, but he hasn't coded me off yet and payroll would have been processed yesterday, so I should have been coded off already. My "bookkeeper " told me that she'd pay me vacation as long as I'm still in the system. My SM is the kind that doesn't code off anyone he likes, he lets the system take care of it. Plus, I gave notice, and finished out my 2 weeks, giving 100% effort until the last day. He told me I'm the first employee that's quit on him in over 2 years to actually finish out the 2 weeks and leave on a good note....  (May 31, 2012 | post #4)

New pay new position new prioritys

I also took the step down to SFL (Have since left the company), and truth be told, I actually really enjoyed the overnights, but I worked my ass off. It did me no favors with my sleep schedule though. It's been 3 weeks since I Left WAG, and I'm still exhausted from the 2 months of overnights I did. Working the overnights allowed me to get a second job, which would have helped offset the paycut. Taking the step down to overnights, though, is basically conceding. You'll never get promoted, now matter how hard you work. I realized that toward the end and stopped working hard. Either way, Walgreens is only a job, and not a career, unless, of course, you kiss ass.  (May 28, 2012 | post #7)

Answer to possible Timeline and demotions in FAQ.

My DM told me that if I was to apply for ASM-T next year and don't get the position, I'd have to take a SFL job.  (May 22, 2012 | post #3)

No sfls, what next?

This is an ongoing problem in this company, I believe. When the transition first started, we had 3 overnight SFLs right off the bat (I was one of them.). We have 2 24 hour stores. I JUST left the company, and that leaves our district with only 1 SFL. I heard right before I left that they were able to convince an MGT to step down to replace me, so that makes 2, but they can't find anyone else to take the other roles. I don't even think anyone has applied for it yet....  (May 19, 2012 | post #2)

ASM pay leaked

Where the hell are MGTs making 45k? I only made $38k last year, and I've been with the company as an MGT for 6 years! The MGTs pay will drop to just under $30k after the SFL demotion.  (May 18, 2012 | post #31)

EXAs looking for new jobs

I have to add to this. EVERY employee at Menards from the Store manager down are hourly. I was told I'd be guaranteed 45 hours per week, which is a guaranteed 5 hours of OT. They offer $2.50/hr bonus for working weekends and holidays. After a year, you automatically get 8 hours of holiday pay on their 6 holidays, plus the hourly bonus if you work. They are closed Christmas day, so I'll never have to worry about that again. I'll have a week of vacation after 26 weeks. The one downside, you HAVE to be open to relocation, BUT if you're willing to relocate, you could get promoted VERY quickly. They also require a college degree, and I had to order official transcripts from my university to prove that I got my degree. I'm excited about the fact that I'm actually going to be using my degree.  (May 16, 2012 | post #13)

EXAs looking for new jobs

I'm going to Menards, it's a home improvement store found primarily in the Midwest, similar to Home Depot or Lowe's. They told me in the lowest management position I'd be making between $35k - $50k after bonuses.  (May 16, 2012 | post #12)

EXAs looking for new jobs

I have to echo what others are saying on here. I'm leaving Walgreens (3 days left) and I'm going to an employer that required me to start at a significantly lower wage than what I was making at Walgreens, but the opportunities are better, and the company as a whole takes much better care of their employees. The rest of this year is going to be a little bit difficult, but next year should be great. I'll be getting a ton of bonuses and should make more than I made as an MGT. I think it's worth it to start over.  (May 15, 2012 | post #9)

new card??

Is this technically correct? I heard they killed this program. I signed up for a card and never got one, and I read a short time later that they had decided to put the kabash on it.  (May 15, 2012 | post #4)

The Restructuring is Going Roughly in my Market

Well, in my district, as far as the restructuring goes, we've lost at least 2 RXMs, 3 or 4 MGTs that I know of, our LPM, and our RXS. I am an MGT that stepped down to overnight SFL, and I gave my notice the other day. Our DM is now scrambling, because that is now 3 people that have taken overnight SFL that have left, and we still had 1 position still open in our district. Plus, now he's had his district staff leaving on top of it. I laugh....  (May 6, 2012 | post #64)

Are there any DM's on topix?

I used to have my location on here. But, I realized that my district is so small, and some of the things I was writing would give away who I am. So, I hid my location, and now I'm careful about what I write. Gave my notice yesterday though, so who really cares? :-)  (May 4, 2012 | post #11)

screwing wags over every chance we get

I stepped down to SFL, then, with no prior warning, gave my store manager my 2 weeks notice yesterday. I'd say it caught him a little bit off guard. Oh well. Going to a different organization where I have a better future! :-)  (May 4, 2012 | post #69)

Any Mgts or EXAs quit your store yet?

Haven't had any MGTs or EXAs quit in my store, but we've had a few leave in our district. Also, our district lost our LP manager (Quit) and the RXM at our store just gave her notice as well. She's headed to Walmart. Apparently that's where its at since 2 of the pharmacy managers in the district have left to go there. Also, had a SM quit as well. Big week for my DM!  (Apr 23, 2012 | post #54)
