Gov. Rell signs ethics bill

Well- it's great that there is such a bill-- but what about that branch of our government which is not held accountable? You know- the one with all the friends and family having all of the good jobs? All the attention seems to be away from the people who commit the real wrongs. The Connecticut Post has a number of people who are commenting on one situation in Bridgeport where the proof seems apparent that there is a branch of government where a baby sitter can come to work and become a boss and make 70K a year just because she is the friend of a powerful state employee who does not even have his name on the DAS website to find state employees.  (Jun 24, 2008 | post #5)

While I understand your frustration-- just how is it we know she works for DAS? And actually if it was her lunch and she was between appointments she may well have been saving the state money-- just the time it would take to return the car, go to the office for her break and then return to the car is time. Finally, there is another posting on this web site which is addressing gross waste of state funds in that high level postions are given to friends of management under the heading of "Rell signs ethics reform bill into law." I mean the video addressed here was not of a high level, high paid employee and people seem to want to destroy her- yet the person mentioned in this other post (Rell signs ethics bill into law) makes more than a hundred thousand dollars a year and manages to make the system and the highest paying and most powerful jobs in it work for himself and his friends and family. Here's the thing, the worst wrong doers get to hide behind the human error of others while these same wrong doers knowling violate laws and rules while making certain they and their friends enjoy extra perks the rest of us will never know about unless we really pay attention.  (Jun 24, 2008 | post #99)

Have you ever noticed that the most powerful people can not be found directly but instead have a very low profile? Just go to DAS website and use the resources link to find state employees. I put in the name of one person who I believe is the worst offender, giving jobs to his friends and family while taking the worst revenge on anyone and everyone questioning his authority in violating our ethics and laws -- you can't find him on DAS nor can you find him in the second of his duel roles listed anywhere.  (Jun 24, 2008 | post #18)

So, you say the news channels care about the kind of stuff where a state worker is sleeping? Where is the news when jobs are created or given to friends of those in power? I believe that the video will have a negative impact on the employee and if they were sleeping on the job then they should be dealt with. But what if the employee was between sites and rather than waste the taxpayer gas dollars in returning to the office to take her lunch, she pulled over and took her break between job related appointments?-- (the vido only covered a short period of time).  (Jun 23, 2008 | post #67)

If I were reporting I would ask some questions. 1. Joe D'Alesio is listed as Executive Secretary as well as Executive Director of Court Opperations. Who is he Executive Secretary to? 2. If you are an Executive Director how is it possible to also be an Executive Secretary. 3. Finally, is he paid for holding two positions? 4. Isn't the state supposed to have a means to hire people in a way that is objective? 5. If that is true than how is it that there can possibly be people on a state payroll who are afforded such privledge?  (Jun 22, 2008 | post #9)

I think if our leaders continue to fail to deal with these serious issues, then perhaps in November we should remember that when we vote. Taxes are supposed to help pay for the things we need in our government, not to give a job to someone because they are related to or friends with someone.  (Jun 19, 2008 | post #5)
