Akron Beacon Journal - Library patrons celebrate new, bigger branch

And a beautiful library it is indeed! Congratulations to all who brought it into being!  (Aug 26, 2007 | post #1)

Akron Beacon Journal - What's the future of Akron?

Looks like the current mayor is far more realistic in his approach to urban problems than dreamer Finley. Finley makes lots of promises, but in reality he has had no success at implementing change during his years on city council. Plusquellic on the other hand has turned our downtown into a vibrant and exciting place to visit. He has brought about changes that have increased my quality of life. Some of Finley's promises are simply outrageous ploys to trick the voters. For example, just how is he going to increase street repairs while bringing down the costs? I also wonder who his new cabinet might include, especially since the pay will be lowered ten percent? And I have no interest in a candidate who decides to cut off the rest of the world by restricting travel -- that's a recipe for sure disaster. Close your mind to what is effective elsewhere and see how fast we sink as a city. Finley lost in his last citywide run and there are plenty of reasons why. It is easy to harp and criticize, as can be seen on these boards day after day -- but to step up and get the job done -- we need a savvy and pragmatic person like Plusquellic.  (Aug 26, 2007 | post #6)

Akron Beacon Journal - Urban League sparkles

Congratulations to the Urban League on your beautiful new building. As one who works and lives in this neighborhood, I am glad to be a part of the ongoing renaissance. The Urban League has contributed mightily to our city over the years and you all deserve this elegant new facility.  (Aug 17, 2007 | post #16)

Akron Beacon Journal - U.S. Rep. Pryce will retire

Now if only Voinovich would retire. Sooner rather than later.  (Aug 16, 2007 | post #1)

Akron Beacon Journal - Auditor criticizes Brennan schools

Brennan's a Republican -- he gives his money to them, not to the Dems. Marco is not on the board of APS. Get your facts straight.  (Aug 16, 2007 | post #10)

Akron Beacon Journal - Dogfighting alive in Northeast Ohio

Shame on that local rescue worker/"vet " who patches up dogs so they can be tossed in the ring again to fight. What kind of good does that person think they are accomplishing? Relieving the dog's pain just so that it can go inflict more pain and probably end up dead? Allowing the human cretins who do these things to keep on doing them? There's really no difference between that so called "rescue worker" and people like Michael Vick -- both participate(d) in perpetuating cruelty.  (Aug 15, 2007 | post #1)

Akron Beacon Journal - Rival says Plusquellic policies fail

Finley proudly states he is 100% Right to Life on his web site. We don't need troglodytes in charge of our city. Voting for Don and his "greenprint " for Akron.  (Aug 15, 2007 | post #32)

Akron Beacon Journal - Don Plusquellic's debatable opponent

Did the ABJ cover Plusquellic's newly proposed "Greenprint for Akron"? I was very pleased to see an actual plan for moving Akron toward a healthier, more sustainable and energy efficient future. If anyone is interested, you can find the Greenprint in press release form at the city of Akron's web site.  (Aug 13, 2007 | post #1)

Akron Beacon Journal - Man-made wetlands fail to make the grade

Right on, OMG! For a state that is losing population, we sure are seeing a huge growth in development of land that would be best left untouched. It would make much more sense to follow the wisdom of Reduce, Reuse, Recycle in terms of housing as well as trash. Why the need to build plastic inside and out houses that will look shoddy in a couple of decade on pristine land?  (Aug 13, 2007 | post #4)

Akron Beacon Journal - Ohio poll says issues key in 2008|

Old Man Grump! I am delighted to be agreeing with you! Now if you could only stop smearing our mayor with a certain negative adjective!  (Aug 12, 2007 | post #2)

Akron Beacon Journal - Humbard hospitalized in Florida

Remember the scandal when it was revealed that ol' Humbug invested in a bra and girdle factory?  (Aug 10, 2007 | post #14)

Akron Beacon Journal - See-through sound walls are pricey

Check out living green sound barriers at -- much more beautiful and totally environmental. The walls that are going up all over Akron are not only ugly, they look as shoddy as can be -- and will probably start to deteriorate shortly. My guess is that those big contracts are handed out to various friends and supporters and that's why we are stuck with non-sustainable ugly barriers made out of fake bricks or clear plastic.  (Aug 10, 2007 | post #7)

Akron Beacon Journal - Erie beaches top U.S. list of risky sites

Another major infrastructure problem brought about by years of neglect and refusal of officials and voters to spend the necessary money to keep our waterways clean.  (Aug 9, 2007 | post #1)

Akron Beacon Journal - Creativity of students on display

A wonderful program for Akron's youth and the community. Best wishes to all the young artists -- we welcome your artistic visions. Thanks to the mayor for putting this program in place.  (Aug 9, 2007 | post #1)
