How do you feel about gun control?

Are you the real Santa Claus?  (Dec 26, 2012 | post #52)

How do you feel about gun control?

Nothing. That's my point. We live in a country where gun ownership is a core value and where there are guns, there are injuries. Though this episode was violent and horrific due to the random, public nature of the attack, it represents just a fraction of the children that will die due to firearm accidents this year. I think a distinction needs to be made between criminals buying illegal guns to commit crimes and these people, many mentally ill, that have one violent episode. They really aren't the same thing at all. We really don't have a good system for dealing with mental illness in this country and I think it says a lot about our culture when someone can more readily access an AR-15 than the psychiatric help they need. We will never live without guns in this country, nor should we. Gun control is always proposed as a black and white argument, all or nothing, but it's much more dynamic. I have no problem with having to register weapons, or background checks, or restricted ownership of certain weapons, but it's always met with calls of violated rights. I planned on buying an AR-15 this year, but I am definitely having trouble rationalizing that purchase against my own little piece of the responsibility for these innocent deaths.  (Dec 17, 2012 | post #27)

You are right about the mental illness part. The box cutter wasn't really the weapon in the 9/11 attacks. The real weapon was the airplane.  (Dec 17, 2012 | post #19)

Then your point must not be so strong. Read what I wrote and think about it. Then get back to me.  (Dec 16, 2012 | post #15)

The reality of our situation is that we have forced these children, educators and every other innocent victim of shootings every year to become patriotic martyrs. They died protecting our right to gun ownership. As long as we remain a country with a fundamental reliance on private gun ownership, we will continue to sacrifice a small number of innocent lives because of it. Freedom requires the periodic spilling of the blood of tyrants, but also of children, parents and other private citizens. We all share the responsibility for these deaths, albeit some more than others.  (Dec 16, 2012 | post #9)

I agree. If more of those kindergarteners had guns, they could have stopped this guy much earlier.  (Dec 15, 2012 | post #2)

You are an idiot. This happened two years ago and was a miserable failure. You will believe anything, huh?  (Dec 12, 2012 | post #3)

From the article: But in an interview with CBS News, First Amendment Center president and CEO Ken Paulson said the school was legally obligated to delete the reference to God, because public schools cannot sanction religious messages in captive environments like classrooms or assemblies. “When the little girl wrote the poem and included a reference to God, she had every right to do that,” Paulson told CBS News. “The First Amendment protects all Americans. She had every right to mention God, [but] that dynamic changed when they asked her to read it at an assembly.” There is your answer.  (Dec 11, 2012 | post #6)

Next American Revolution war

Holy cow, dude. You need help. Go outside and look around. We live in a capitalist country and we are free to do as we please. Whoever is telling you the communists are coming is taking you for a ride and trying to sell you something in the process. What in your life has gone so wrong in the last 6 years? What has changed at all? You sound like Chicken Little telling everyone, " The sky is falling." The fact is that the country as a whole has been more conservative now than even in Reagan's time, but you feel like its getting more Liberal? So what if others want to celebrate different holidays or want to be treated equally even though they don't share your same beliefs? This is America, and as long as a person doesn't cause injury to another, they should be left alone and you don't have the right to not be offended. Disapproving of someone's actions or lifestyle is not an injury. It sounds like you need to tend to your own house, your own problems. This paranoia is not good for anyone, especially you.  (Dec 11, 2012 | post #11)

War on Christmas

It seems that you and I have different definitions of War. I'm not interested in telling anyone what to say. Look, everyone knows that Jamie Foxx is a moron. I hadn't even heard of this until you posted it because I don't listen to anything he says. It just doesn't matter to me. Would you be upset with me if I wished you Happy Hanukah?  (Dec 11, 2012 | post #46)

The guy sounds like a pushover, but I don't live in Rhode Island so I don't really care. That's for his residents to judge.  (Dec 11, 2012 | post #5)
