Knee Replacement

Knee resurfacing - alternative to total knee replacement

Knee resurfacing is now available in India. Patients with arthritis confined to one half of the knee are suitable candidates for this procedure. The device used is an Unicompartmental interpositonal arthroplasty called 'Orthoglide'. It can be inserted through a combination of key hole and minimally invasive approaches. It received FDA approval in 2006. It also has got approval in India. Patients in their fifties or eighties who want to postpone or avoid a total knee replacement constitute the right candidates. The cost is just half of that for a total knee replacement. Recovery is quicker and normal range of motion is retained.  (Apr 5, 2012 | post #1)
