Well, the American people didn't complain much when the police started setting up sobriety checkpoints and, later, seatbelt checkpoints. We started giving up freedom in exchange for a little security a long time ago. (Feb 1, 2008 | post #377)
YES! I haven't thought of that in years, but my Mom used to make it often. I think it was a poor boys' version, or just an easier version, of biscuits and gravy, but we kids loved it. (Jan 31, 2008 | post #290)
Barack Obama set a record by raising $32M in campaign donations this month alone. Has anyone noticed how nobody complains about the money in politics, now that most of it is going to Democrats? (Jan 31, 2008 | post #212)
I went Sunday for my grits fix, along with "cheesy eggs," "scattered and smothered," and raisin toast. I've not eaten raisin toast since I was a kid, except for when I get the cheesy eggs at Waffle and Steak. Interesting sidenote: For years, "Waffle House" was known as "Waffle & Steak" in Indiana due to another chain of restaurants owning the rights to the "Waffle House" name in the state. Nope. Nobody knows. The storm is still 250-300 miles away. http://www.indysta r.com/apps/pbcs.dl l/article?AID=/200 80131/LOCAL/801310 518 (Jan 31, 2008 | post #76)
Great idea, to have a "wedding vacation," but why Mexico? Why not an American seaside location, island or other scenic location? Yosemite? Grand Canyon? Redwood Forest? Philadelphia's Independence Hall? The Statue of Liberty? Colonial Williamsburg? (Jan 30, 2008 | post #262)
Oh, yeah, the MREs came much later, I think in the early or mid 1980s. At least that's when I first had them. You can buy them at most Army surplus stores and even on line, I think. I guess some campers and backpackers like them because they are compact and lightweight. Many MREs now come with a tiny bottle of tabasco sauce! (Jan 29, 2008 | post #363)
A friend of mine sent a photo of himself in Baghdad sitting at a table outside Starbucks. The Starbucks sign is clearly visible on the building behind him. Over there, he said, the GIs call it "Fourbucks. " :-) (Jan 29, 2008 | post #361)
I don't believe you have to be married. You just need to have had a dependent living with you more than six months of 2007. Since the bill is not expected to be out of the Senate until mid-February, nobody can say for sure because details are still being hammered out. http://www.sfgate. com/cgi-bin/articl e.cgi?f=/c/a/2008/ 01/29/BUSCUNN6B.DT L http://www.unionle ader.com/article.a spx?headline=Q%26A %3A+You+and+the+ec onomic+stimulus+pl an&articleId=e 4803da4-1bf4-4671- 93c1-3cfced34d9fd (Jan 29, 2008 | post #341)
Another example of why LIO may not be the best place to seek legal advice. Or any advice, for that matter :-) (Jan 29, 2008 | post #335)
Odd, isn't it, that we used the heart symbol to represent "love," and now we spell out "heart" to mean "love." We spent thousands of years developing a written language, yet we keep going back to our cave-painting ways :-) (Jan 29, 2008 | post #332)
I had C rats and MREs, and they both get old really fast. My most memorable Army meal was after returning from 'Nam. We landed at Travis AFB, and bused up to Oakland, arriving about 2 a.m. Our first stop was an old WWII-style mess hall, where they served us a very nice steak dinner with baked potato and veggies. One guy in line near me said something like "Wouldn't it be nice to have some steak and eggs." The cook heard him, and promptly threw two eggs on the grill for him! (Jan 29, 2008 | post #325)
OK, so your hourly rate is $31.25. Let me see if Pedro or Hector want to make a bid. (Jan 29, 2008 | post #308)
