El Dorado Octogenarian Writes Childhood Memories

Gail Martin of El Dorado wrote about growing up in the 1930s in My Flint Hills Childhood. Her father worked for Phillips Petroleum, so they lived in oil camp housing, fished in the Cottonwood River, and drove to town on Saturdays for shopping and a movie. Read an excerpt from this homespun memoir at www.gailmartin.wor dpress.com.  (Aug 3, 2009 | post #1)

Early Gentry Home

I posted a photo below, wondering if the old home is still there in Gentry. The photo is from my mother's book, My Flint Hills Childhood. Her mother's family were the Vinings and lived in Gentry before moving to Tyro, KS. www.gailmartin.wor dpress.com  (Aug 3, 2009 | post #1)

Remember the Glass Factory in Tyro?

My mom described it in her book, My Flint Hills Childhood. Her father, Clarence McGhee, worked there in 1913. She has a photo of the workers inside the plant. Is the building still standing?  (Aug 3, 2009 | post #1)

Remember the Princess Theater in Eureka?

I wish I could have seen it. My mom describes it in her book, My Flint Hills Childhood: Growing Up in 1930s Kansas. It sounded really grand. Does anyone remember going there?  (Aug 3, 2009 | post #1)
