registration leads to confiscation!!!

You do know that the new law was passed in both the senate and assembly by democratically elected representatives and signed by the democratically elected governor, correct? I don't know what sort of mental gymnastics caused you to believe such actions are dictatorial. Or maybe it's one of those "it's only democratic if I agree with it!" things that the right is famous for.  (Jan 19, 2013 | post #25)

Numerology is a pseudoscience. Proven to be a superstition and completely inaccurate in predicting future events or explaining past ones. You are chasing windmills, Diana.  (Jan 19, 2013 | post #13)

There is nothing that is a coincidence in your life, is there? If your value meal at McDonalds comes to $4.12, is that a sign that McDonalds is involved in your vast conspiracy too?  (Jan 19, 2013 | post #12)

Gun nuts are hypocrites!

You seem obsessed with ad-hominem attacks, the very crest of the weak and feeble minded. I truly apologize for whatever hardships in your life have led you to this point, but i'm afraid I cannot help you in any way. And I honestly have no idea who this Bodhisvata person is, but if it eases your mental suffering to accuse me of being someone else, I won't judge you.  (Jan 19, 2013 | post #18)

An ATF permit!?!!? A visit from the FEDS?!!? How dare the federal government decide who gets to manufacture explosives! If buying a gun required that level of scrutiny the world would be a better place.  (Jan 19, 2013 | post #23)

Ah yes, the world business and financial capital. The destination for cinema, theatre, music, art, dining and much more. The world's media headquarters. Home to prestigious universities. Just a bunch of poor immigrants. Let me guess, you've never lived in a place with more humans than cattle?  (Jan 19, 2013 | post #12)

I am certainly not violent, just concerned at someone who thinks that there is a nebulous group of people murdering police officers to somehow get back at you for some personal transgression. Are people still outside your house whispering things?  (Jan 19, 2013 | post #10)

Well, I went to Skidmore for philosophy, and then went on for my PhD in communication from the University at Albany, but i'm sure Mr. Hob's high school diploma with concentration in welding surely bests those.  (Jan 19, 2013 | post #16)

Vatican praises Obama's gun control proposal

The real Jesus wasn't an apostle of peace and love. Instead of "turn the other cheek" it should be translated "murder them in cold blood with a handgun".  (Jan 19, 2013 | post #6)

The greater point is that this slippery slope towards banning personal ownership of firearms is a laughable fantasy at best, and banning the most dangerous weapons is a reasonable response towards keeping everyone safe. The scariest part of this whole controversy is how obsessed the American people seem to be with deadly weapons of war. It's almost sociopathic in nature. I couldn't imagine the reactions if someone said they were just a law-abiding VX gas enthusiast, but many in this country fetishize machines designed to maim and kill.  (Jan 19, 2013 | post #19)

Utica, probably. But (thankfully) there is more to New York than the greater Mohawk Valley. College towns like Ithaca and Syracuse aren't going anywhere. The Capital Region including outlying areas like Malta and Saratoga Springs continue to do well. And don't forget that people from all over the globe flock to New York, 8 million and counting.  (Jan 19, 2013 | post #10)

Those with a formal education tend to value the advantage that proper spelling and grammar bring to dialogue, and if English is your primary language you have little excuse. Statues exist to prevent both dangerous or harmful speech and possession of dangerous weapons. The difference is that using words incorrectly (in a libelous manner) might lead to some bruised reputations, someone using a firearm incorrectly ends up with innocent people in the morgue. Therefore it is more sensible to limit such precarious weaponry before the blood is spilled, rather than ex-post-facto. Please remember that Supreme Court cases regarding the 1st Amendment were tried after Americans rallied in opposition to intervention in the Russian Revolution, and 2nd amendment decisions usually occurred after the deaths of many innocent Americans. Trying to equate the ability of citizens in a modern, progressive society to own weapons of war with the ability of citizens to freely communicate is deranged at best.  (Jan 19, 2013 | post #8)

You managed to mis-spell the "hypocrisy " even though the root word is at the very top of the page. Strong work. Since you are somehow trying to compare and contrast the combination of private property and free speech rights that dictate the running of a website, and the gun rights of the nation with the loosest firearm laws in the free world, apparently you need some education in the rule of law. It is a free country, but within this free country is a series of laws which exist to protect the well-being of the populace. Without these codes that society lives by, you have the unsustainable condition of anarchy. You may be familiar with the Oliver Wendell Holmes quote about shouting "fire!" in a crowded theatre. We have laws that limit individual free speech to prevent the damaging consequences of libel and slander, much as we have weapon laws to prevent the damaging consequences of violence.  (Jan 19, 2013 | post #4)
